Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumHillary led Sanders by 309 delegates by this time in 2016.
But Ohio had their primary on 3/15. And there are a few states that voted later back in 2016.

(18,402 posts)and all the votes from tonight have not been counted. (E.g., Illinois mail-in ballots just had to be postmarked by today, so will trickle in some; Arizona is only 6% counted).

(28,833 posts)Many of the states he won after 3/15 have since switched to primaries from caucuses.
Biden is also projected to win nearly every state left. Clinton wasn't.

(1,315 posts)The map is different this time and there is not a single state where Bernie can win let alone win big enough to catch up.

(58,785 posts)very well in one-on-one interviews, but he just didn't own the stage. I've always felt we should make them campaign with bags over their heads. Or ours.
As for Sanders, remember that experts saw no real path for him from the beginning, something the political MSM mostly kept hidden. Of course, they didn't know in the early months that Russia was working to put Trump in office and as part of that providing critical lift to the Sanders campaign. So it didn't crash and burn shortly after takeoff, but Hillary shifted anyway o running against Trump pretty early.

(1,089 posts)Didn't help that there was a dearth of candidates that year. Gotta be a decent compromise between 2 and 2 dozen.

(58,785 posts)we had 14 initial candidates. That I know of. Nine Democrats were cut out in order to rig, to use I-Sanders' own terminology, FOR him and four others. As I recall, one for sure was a flake, but they included real candidates who had real supporters at home and met the qualifications.
So 5 -- representing a broad range between Jim Webb representing white male Democrats victimized by too much equality on the blue-dog side and Sanders battling to save America from Democrats on the far left -- may be too few or.... And over two dozen are ridiculous. One thing I feel sure of, we have to get control by decent compromise before Newt decides to use our next primary to sell fake cancer cures on our debate stages.

(1,089 posts)I sure didn't remember that many being in...thanks for the mini-history lesson.
Pretty sure only 3 made it to Iowa and after that O'Malley was gone. One-and-done and down to only 2 with 49 states left to go doesn't seem quite right to me.
Maybe Boehner can join Newt on stage and peddle his pot company a little? Marijuana stocks taking a beating as I knew they would since they were the modern equivalent of the dot-coms of the late 90s. Poor John sitting on a pile of worthless MJ stock options if he hasn't already cashed them all in.

Started off over $24 a share and now down to a buck and change. Kinda looks like the stock market under Dubya.
Oh, well...another GOP whore did well for himself and that's the main thing.

(1,089 posts)O'Malley had the exact same problem in 2016 that Biden had in 2008. 2 candidates pretty much sucked all the oxygen outta the room early and he never had much chance and didn't last very long. Wish folks had given him a much closer look.

(58,785 posts)my thoughts. Impatient fingers.
Agree entirely. The short game's who can grab the most attention first. He did manage to be one of the top three because of his sheer excellence, but he was on his way home before people finally got that closer look.
Off to bed. Again.
