Sanders to Reporters: I'm dealing with a fucking global crisis.

?s=20

@mkraju
Sen. Bernie Sanders grew angry when asked about his campaign plans. During a gaggle with reporters in the Capitol, I asked Sanders about his timeframe for making a decision, and he lashed out: "I'm dealing with a fucking global crisis. You know, we're dealing with."

It's how he's always dealt with the press back to when he was mayor. 'The big issues becloud my brain please cease with your nattering.'

An exchange w/ Politico after Bernie's aide admitted Bernie had lied for years about his son's mother:

'The last question I had sent him was whether there was anything else he thought I should know.

“Yes,” Briggs said.

“The middle class is collapsing. Income and wealth inequality is greater now than it has been at any point since before the Great Depression. The American people are working longer hours for lower wages, and they’re angry. Those kinds of things, you should know.”

https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/07/bernie-sanders-vermont-119927

That's how they sidestepped questions, pretending to be concerned about big stuff. Real big stuff.

I totally get it! I'd say something similar, I'm sure! I'd like to think I'd say "we," but my evil twin who would be taking over by now if I were in Bernie's shoes would say something just as dumb, and I'd probably be crying, too. On camera.

Bernie, go home. Go private. Get yourself grounded.

In one sentence, he confirmed what many of us have always understood about his "movement". It's not about "us". It's about the center of the movement, Bernie Sanders. It seems that it always has been.

Who else would look at the situation and say something like that? His very first thought was "I'm dealing with a fucking global crisis"?

Seriously?

Is there anything he could ever say that you'd take exception with or try to wave off?

"I'm dealing with a fucking global crisis. You know, we're dealing with."

Since the underlying question to him was "Why are you not providing us with a further update on the future status of your campaign?" a response that starts with "I'm" is absolutely appropriate. And he then said "we're dealing with", so there is your demanded bloody "us".

For instance, if you are at a grocery store and you see a senior citizen who is dressed way way down and looks stressed, would it be ok/ not cause harm to go behind them and drop a couple if 20$s and say
Oh sir you dropped something

And walk on?

They dressed like they had since the 40’s. Overalls for papaw and prairie dress for my grandmother. And hated crowds. But they were worth hundreds of thousands in the 80’s. But looked like paupers

You stereotype them and offer my grandfather a few twenties like he needs charity you could expect to get your ass kicked by a 70 something year old. And he could still do it. If you are a guy. If a lady you could expect my grandmother to set into you. Papaw never hit a girl. He spanked the boys would not raise a hand to his daughter.

Offering charity to someone without being asked can be very insulting.

We have a lot of poor elderly here in the islands.

There are obviously other major cultural differences.

For instance I don’t think anyone here would give you cracks for trying to help them or making a mistake and thinking they might need a hand. Might laugh at you though. And with you.

Maybe you haven’t come across these people at Costco.

Two weeks ago I was at Palama Market on a rainy evening enjoying a smoking hot cast iron bowl of bubbling kimchee soup. I forgot that you get a big box of two scoops rice, pickled veggies and (yuck) Mac salad. I saw an (apparently) very poor senior Japanese lady who had finished her food a while ago and appeared to be keeping busy tidying up her bags to stay out of the rain.

I spoke with her a bit in Japanese, apologized for interrupting her and explained that they’d given me so much rice but I don’t need it, could she use it?

I used very polite Japanese. Arigato gozaimashita.

She started to cry, thanked me and gave me a hug.

I’m glad your grandparents weren’t hungry.

They aren’t the only proud ones.

Bye now

My grandparents were very dignified, didn’t have a lot of money but had all they needed, could certainly more than handle themselves but I can’t put them in that picture at all.

They had humor and wit and that would more than serve. Imagine a grandma throwing blows if you thought she needed help? Mercy.

It is unfortunate that there are people here so desperate to bash Bernie and one wing of the Democratic party they even read the word "we" out of the quote so they can claim that a quote is egocentric.

Unity is so needed and unfortunately threads like this which invent an issue to bash on, are very unfortunate for those who would rather a win against Trump rather than have fun bashing others. The election is really secondary to most of us at the moment if we have family and are facing lockdowns and an unforeseen future. My wish is that one day I would log on to the Democratic Underground and just once not not see on the Greatest Page such posts.

in the Fall of 2008 when the economy was crashing and jobs were shedding at an alarming rate. I remember McCain announcing he was suspending campaigning in order to deal with it-- right before the big Senate vote in which all the Republicans panned the Bailout.

So, if Bernie wants no distractions from our epochal crisis, maybe he should announce he needs to suspend this campaign so he can properly attend to his.. you know.. his day job.
