Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumwhere is Joe Biden lately? i haven't seen him for a few days
he could be holding alternative pressers to respond to Trump's daily press-abuse event with a real discussion of the situation we face as Americans, and as humans
if he's giving Trump room to try out presidentin' during a crisis, that grace period better end really soon
else people will start associating whatever Trump does with actual leadership and we will lose bigly in November

(24,674 posts)under the circumstances, doing a 1/2 hour daily teleconference with press invited would be helpful and much less bot-infested
treating Trump as a responsible adult worthy of respect is a huge mistake

(1,573 posts)I thought that he was also letting Bernie do his work in the Senate and being respectful of his opponent and the situation. I feel what he has been doing is appropriate, and I'm not a big Biden fan.

(11,216 posts)Let Trump bury himself. Biden doesn't need to do a thing right now. The "I told you so" speeches will come soon enough.

They seem to be doing a fine job on their own without any help.

(1,089 posts)it'll look like he's politicizing a national emergency...even if it was mostly caused by Trump himself.
The people will just have to learn the hard way that elections have consequences and that "Stupid Is As Stupid Votes". They learned that back in the 1930s but almost all of them are dead now so the lesson has to be relearned all over again.

(24,674 posts)he's running daily pressers where he pretends to be a leader managing a crisis
think Joe should just let that go without providing an alternative vision?
remember, he doesn't have to mention Trump at all to give an encouraging view to the American people. in fact, it's probably far better if he doesn't.

(11,216 posts)No doubt his more ardent followers still think Trump can walk on water, but the situation is rapidly getting out of control, and he appears more weak and helpless by the day.

each leader, real or fake, defines and redefines the image of a leader, especially under stressful conditions

(4,035 posts)in press conferences etc. That would set Sen. Sanders' supporters' hair on fire for sure.
It would be advantageous if the presumptive nominee could coordinate the message of the Dem party with the leaders in Congress, but if he were to do it, there'd be howls of outrage about rigging and coronation etc from those who are so delusional they think Sen Sanders still has a chance to win.

(3,814 posts)As an older candidate who makes gaffes, he needs to take the Reagan route of prioritizing quality over quantity. He has been doing this successfully over the past few weeks (and winning) whereas before he was spreading himself too thin and messing up often.
Joe can't appear to be politicizing this crisis, it's too dangerous and could blow back on him.
I do share your fear about Trump trying to act like FDR or something (lol), and stupid people buying in this. The stimulus and other gov't actions taken are classic Democratic strategies that are antithetical to the GOP's anti-gov't philosophy. Voters need to understand this, why they need to elect a Democrat for these times.
