With Bernie refusing to drop out or even agree to joint fundraising, the DNC isn't able to effectively prepare a war chest against Trump:

(17,760 posts)...rather than his own selfish political ambitions would be part of the movement to beat Donald Trump. However, it is increasingly clear that if Bernie cannot be the nominee, he wants to hobble Democrats as payback. He can be as petty and vindictive as Donald Trump. Narcissism is not restricted to Republicans.

(43,891 posts)...after "progressive" candidates lost their asses, FDR said We have on the positive side eliminated Phil La Follette and the Farmer-Labor people in the Northwest as a standing Third Party Threat.
This is kind of how I feel about the Bernie "revolution" right now. His actions will set back his and future movements like his.
Elizabeth Warren had it right. The Augean Stables get cleaned out from the inside, not from the outside.

Sanders and everything he claims he is in remaining primaries. The majority of democrats want him out so that Biden can get on with the business of facing Trump. If Sanders doesn't drop out, I predict that Wisconsin, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island voters batter him when those primaries are held. He is going to see South Carolina, Florida, Mississippi losing margins in states where he was once favored.

(31,261 posts)After Sanders was trounced in Michigan and all but one March 10th primary, his backers said give him a one on one debate with Joe Biden and then the March 17th primaries. After Sanders was crushed in the debate and the March 17 primaries, his supporters have no legitament justification for prolonging this primary, other than to cause anarchy.

(23,763 posts)Understood, coronavirus and all that, but the inevitable delegate majority for Biden is just being delayed, pushed closer to the convention. Assuming, of course, that the convention date is not moving, yet.
If the convention is held on schedule, there's still plenty of time to re-kindle the Biden machine to compete with the Repubs.
There's nothing preventing the DNC from collecting money now, and using it for competitive House and Senate seats, and for Governors' mansions.

(4,035 posts)but it's the nominee or the presumptive nominee that gets to release the funds, because when they become the presumptive nominee, they become the de fact leaders of the party. In 2016, that was a huge issue because of Senator Sanders conceding so late, and he refused to fundraise for down-ticket races in general to boot. He only fundraised for a select few candidates whom he deemed pure enough, and who had endorsed him. That is part of the reason why 2018 was a much more successful election down-ticket than 2016, though not the only reason, of course.

And Im now for Obama coming out and endorsing Biden. At first, I was thinking he should wait until we have a nominee, but no more. Of course, its his decision and Ill respect whatever path he takes.
