Democratic Primaries

Right now, Biden and his supporters back a plan in which, unless you are very poor or very old, you get to keep the employee-provided insurance you love.
But now that everybody is going to be laid off, they'll lose the insurance, and they can't afford a public option. But since they're now poor, they get to be covered by Medicaid, so it all works out in the end, correct?

Not voting Democrat is going to cost the lives and/or the lives of loved ones of many of those who fell for these lies, and subsequently tragically failed their duty as citizens. Unfortunately, even more others will also reap their whirlwind.
Here's something honest to take note of. No spin.

But it was disgusting to me when there was no pandemic and only the partisan dishonesty. Imo, commitment to truth is inseparable from both decency and wisdom. Don't got it, don't got them.
On the plus side for those inclined, though, there's a whole national and planetary holocaust coming to weaponize for dishonest propaganda. This'll work for foreign polity swiftboating also, of course; every past decision can be twisted by those who don't think small to blame Democrats for many millions of COVID deaths. And will.

(7,907 posts)It was during the debate. Bernie was saying all we needed to do is have m4a and covid would be taken care of. Biden pointed out that Italy has universal healthcare and yet they are getting slammed. Meaning, you also need proper leadership, not just universal healthcare. That was the context of this .

(6,963 posts)Doing his job. As is Cuomo, who is the sitting Governor of New York.
Biden's been on the phone with governors and Congressman, 7-11 hours a day. Interviewing for cabinet members and other key officials. Coordinating their activities since the real President is unable to do so. He is NOT president, nor is he a Senator, and certainly not one has missed vote after vote in the last year.
He's also setting up a spare room in his house to be a TV studio. Will be doing regular updates from there probably starting tomorrow
He's not going on TV with hand-picked "Drs" to hold ads and photo-ops for his campaign slogans, while undermining the clear nominee for the Democratic party.

(8,372 posts)The only people that would be without health insurance would be those that willingly choose to forego it.
For those people -- mostly young, healthy people that think they are invincible and would rather spend their money elsewhere -- we should reinstitute the individual mandate penalties so that the rest of us aren't stuck with the bill when/if they end up getting sick and don't have healthcare insurance due to their own selfish actions.

(7,509 posts)but despite having a supermajority, moderates chose to capitulate to the goops, watering it down until it was vulnerable to gooper ratfuckery at the state level. And ironically, and no goop voted for the bill anyway.
Anyways, Biden's own plan says nearly 10 million people will be left uninsured. I suggest you read it.

(6,269 posts)I read Biden's plan. It includes a public option. It expands Medicaid no matter what state you live in.
It's not Medicare for all, because it doesn't exclude the current insurance industry.
Somehow, I think that's what you don't like about it.
Or maybe you didn't read about Biden's plan. I just did. I think, if he can pull it off, it will work.
SO! Tell me about this 10 million uninsured. They are not at the very low end - that's covered by Medicaid. They aren't the elderly - they're covered by Medicare.
There's a tax credit so that your health insurance can't be more than 8.5% of your income. So, it's affordable. If you're making $15K a year with no kids. $1275/year or $100/month. It won't be easy, but it's doable.
From what I can see, if you are uninsured on Biden's plan, it's because you want to be.
But, OK, let's say you can't afford $100/month. Is that the 10 million uninsured?

(70,914 posts)admitted that MFA won't even pass the house. Pres. Obama achieved healthcare for millions what has Sanders ever achieved? He never even got close to passing MFA, and he never will. We will build on the ACA with a public option and end up with universal care...maybe a better plan than one that was passed almost 100 years ago. Of course we could end up with no health care if Sanders disgraceful behavior in not conceding helps reelect Trump.

(5,969 posts)as he would never get his plan through Congress. Do you at least recognize that Biden's plan would cover more people in comparison to what the US has now, not to mention that it's a system the Repubs want to destroy?
Sometimes, you cannot get everything done at once. Out of a responsibility to millions who rely on saving Obamacare and millions who will be among those being covered for the first time, we should strive for improvements we can implement now. There is nothing written in stone that further progress cannot be achieved after building on Obamacare.
This 10 million number is an often used talking point by BS' followers, too often as an excuse to not vote for Biden in the general. Please don't endanger the progress that millions rely on because it might not be perfect.

(46,154 posts)but I have serious doubts.
Especially given the truly insane explosion in the national debt coming like a freight train in a tunnel. Many will turn deficit hawks I fear. Plus the insurance firms, doctor's lobbies, big pharma, etc will fight it tooth and nail, to the death, as laid out in that link.
Too many variables atm, to definitively make a complete concrete call, but I am pretty comfortable saying it will fail. COVID-19 is the new wild card, and that remains to be seen, so I will give you that point.

I tend to see things these days, in terms of systemic analysis, as tilting towards outcomes that come closer to the worst possible than simply bad. And, let me say one more time, no one likes their insurance company. They may like their doctor, but not their insurance company. I don't need a middleman insurance company. Paying them for what? Profiting off people's bad health is not good, and medicine for profit is even worse.
