Related: About this forumSanders' campaign raises over $2 million for coronavirus charities
The charities were selected by the Sanders campaign to help those suffering from the outbreak: Meals on Wheels, No Kid Hungry, Restaurant Workers Community Foundation COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund, One Fair Wage Emergency Fund and the National Domestic Workers Alliance.
In addition to using his campaign to funnel money to charities, Sanders also released a $2 trillion proposal to fight this virus, which would include the U.S. government covering all medical bills accrued during this time period, speeding up testing, invoking emergency powers to scale up production of supplies like surgical masks and ventilators and providing substantial unemployment insurance to those who lose jobs as a result of the outbreak.
The campaign says the last two days are just the start, and they intend to raise money for other charities over the coming days.

(1,315 posts)Someone with an email list of donors that raised $380 million should be able to raise at least a tenth of that.

The article is incorrect, too - the Sanders campaign didn't "funnel money to charities", that would be illegal.
Plus, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and others have spent all weekend trying to hammer out a deal with McCarthy and McConnell, but he's up in Vermont concocting his OWN deal. When did he become Minority Leader or any position of authority to come up with such a deal?
This is entirely inappropriate and presumptuous on his part.

(11,027 posts)a good cause instead! Just change the name of his official campaign site to "Not me, Joe", and start a charitable foundation. If there is anything Bernie has proven himself to be good at, it's raise money.

(11,027 posts)Like gun-rights groups and anti-abortion groups, and, yes, meals on wheels thrown in the mix. They are all affected by the health crisis, and they are not exactly well off financially. Oh, and most of them are working people, who just happen to be Trump's political base.
I am fine with raising money for charities. I am fine with raising money for a presidential campaign (well, sort of). But I am not fine with mixing the two together. Smacks of cheating, somehow.
I guess we have different ideas of what's disgusting...
