Related: About this forumSerious Question for Bernie Supporters about Healthcare
Let me preface this by saying. My husband supports Bernie, my cousins support Bernie. There is a lot of Bernie love in my family. Neither Bernie nor Biden were at the top of my list. So, that "I'm for Biden" thing is just a placeholder. I'm not asking to be mean, or incite riots, or anything like that. I just don't get it. Or rather, if I listen to my husband, the problem with the Biden plan is that the health insurance companies profit. It's "corporatist". Let me know if that's it.

Why is Biden's plan so bad?
Is it because it's not free? (Medicare is not free. My mom paid gap insurance.)
I just finished reading the Biden plan. I think it makes health insurance EXTREMELY affordable for low income and middle income Americans.
It's capped at 8.5%.
Now, with the Bernie plan, taxes would have to go up. By how much? More or less than 8.5%?
No matter how you play it, healthcare is not going to be free. Even Medicaid recipients have co-pays. EITHER it's going to be paid to private insurance, or it's going to be paid to the federal government. But not free.
A Bernie supporter said that 10 million people won't have coverage. Why not?
What's interesting to me is that the Biden plan has the public option that everyone wanted in Obamacare.
I also have to ask, if the majority of Congress would not accept an 8% tax hike, how was Bernie going to make it happen?

(5,665 posts)They held off hearing the case this year so the verdict would be next year after the elections.
If Roberts knew it would survive, they could have done it this year, but striking down the ACA is on their to-do list.

I really want Bernie supporters to answer those questions. They seem so angry at Biden. My husband says he's no different than Trump. I think I can see it, if they want to eliminate health insurance. But if they eliminated health insurance, the federal or state governments would have to staff up to do the job. And it would require taxes.
Medicare for All sounds wonderful. Universal Healthcare sounds wonderful. Other countries have done it. But yes, it would take a revolution, and right now, the current system is working for too many people.
We don't have the climate for a revolution. But there is room for improvement. There are things that I personally love about the Biden plan. Extending the Medicaid coverage would help LOTS of people. Capping health care insurance would help me out a lot.
On the other hand, I'm not sure that Bernie's plan is better for me financially. Looking worst case, if I was out of a job, could I afford health insurance? Under Biden's plan, I think I could. I would go public option, of course, and take advantage of the cap.
At any rate, I get the feeling that eliminating health insurance is what Bernie supporters want. And anything less is unacceptable.
I'd just like some confirmation.
