Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumCriticism of Bernie Sanders Will Cease Here Immediately
upon his withdrawal as a primary candidate for the Democratic nomination for President. Until then, he remains a candidate for that nomination and he will be discussed in the Democratic Primary forum on DU. Why would that not be so?
Are some people criticizing him here? Of course they are. We are in the middle of a primary campaign, and he is a candidate. When he is not, there will be no reason to discuss his activities or lack of them. Some people here also criticize Joe Biden, for the same reason.
We are not discussing the other candidates, all of whom have withdrawn, except for Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders. That's what this forum discusses. Current candidates.
It is incorrect to label any posts here that point out shortcomings of a candidate as "bashing." They are not that. They are part of the primary race discussion.
I, and others, have called on Bernie Sanders to withdraw from the race, because he has no path to the nomination at this point. I, and others, have called for him to also enthusiastically endorse the Democratic Party's presumptive nominee. He has not done neither, so he is still a candidate and a topic for discussion here.

Who spouts half-truths about others in order to diminish them to his advantage.
Finally, one of those that are responsible the unfortunate removal of Al Franken.

(96,043 posts)Let the man concede he has lost the contest to be nominated for President by the Democratic Party, let him forswear publicly any attempts at blackmailing disruption over platform and rules at the convention, and let him give a full-throated endorsement of Mr. Biden. No one will mention his name again.
Of course, that could be why he does not do these things....
"When things are not called by their right names, what is said cannot make sense. When what is said does not make sense, what is planned cannot succeed. When plans do not succeed, people become uneasy. When people are uneasy, punishments do not fit crimes. When punishments do not fit crimes, people cannot know where to put hand or foot."

(46,154 posts)Too much ill will built up.
All that will happen is the subject for attacks will shift, and it will occur in a different forum as this one will be closed down.
This will, rightly or wrongly, never be a Sanders-friendly forum again, if it ever was (I hear many conflicting stories about 2015/16, which was well before my time here.) It simply isn't going to happen, for many reasons. partially becuase of Sanders himself, partially over ideology and overall orientation.
I myself just wish he would drop out, and at least thus remove the overwhelming amount of argy bargy atm.
I am quite sad that one of my favourite posters here, Brooklynite, was just banned, after 18 years here. I am fairly sure it had to do with some Bernie brawl post that he waded into and said something that pissed off enough people, certain people on a jury, and thus poof he goes. Who knows.

(147,334 posts)However, now there is talk of Sanders staying in until after the New York primary, at the end of next month. What a pity. I guess he'll still be topic of threads here.
I didn't know about Brooklynite. That is a sad turn of events. Perhaps he'll be back shortly. He is one of our most knowledgeable politically active DUers.

He was always very nice to me and I loved his insider info. His postings at real events with some great pics were very much appreciated by me. TBH, I have never read a post by him that I would have considered remotely worthy of a hide, but it isn't like I have read EVERY post he made.

(151,830 posts)FFR is Flagged for Review. It is not necessarily a banning. Sometimes the Admins let them go on like that indefinitely, and sometimes they don't.
It depends on the member's conduct. I cannot imagine that they would permanently ban brooklynite.
I sure hope not. That would hurt the community.

(46,154 posts)Yes, I guess I was not so precise with my language. He was not banned by the Admins (Posting Privileges Revoked), but via too many hides.
But, like you said, it is permanent unless the Admins intervene.
I so hope you are staying safe!

(15,504 posts)is that Sanders supporters dominated with a significant minority supporting Clinton. I was one of those Sanders supporters but I never disliked Hillary. After Clinton was nominated, a fair chunk of the Sanders supporters wanted to keep blasting Clinton, so they left or were banned.

And for what? He has no path left.
But supporters on both sides will need to turn out. That wouldn't be necessary if he suspends his campaign.
Its selfish and irresponsible at this point.

(12,300 posts)...that doesn't mean that there aren't postings here that ARE bashing.
If a criticism is relevant and backed up by facts, presented in proper context, etc. that's not a bash. If stuff is misleading, missing important context, irrelevant, or just a virtual primal scream against someone, that's another story.

(9,590 posts)If memory serves me correctly the attacks on Bernie didn't stop. Just the ability to respond to them.
But anyway, I don't mind criticism of Bernie. I mind all the Bashing. By which I mean personal attacks, insults, lies, etc. Things that have nothing to do with simple policy differences but attacks against the man personally.
From calling him a Naricisist:
https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287681606
To saying he cuts a poor figure of a man:
https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287681606
Which they even admit wasn't reference to his masculity but his character:
https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1287&pid=685119
Those are not criticism as expected in a heated but respectful debate. Those are personal attacks...against a man who caucuses with the democrats and supports our causes. A man who stood up for Civil rights in the 60's and Gay soliders in the 90s. A man who has fought for universal healthcare for decades.
You don't have to like him. You can criticize him till the cows come hope. You can mention that he probably wouldn't be able to get any of his agenda passed. That he has no chance of winning. You can discuss why you feel he should drop out. I don't have issues with any of that. But I do have issues with how personal attacks against him and Sander's supporters that happen here all the time. If someone said some of the things about Biden here like they say about Bernie they would get their posts RIGHTFULLY hidden.
