Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumBernie Sanders clings to a fantasy campaign
Former vice president Joe Biden has a lead over Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) of more than 300 delegates in the Democratic presidential primary race. Biden has gotten the endorsement of hundreds of officeholders. According to FiveThirtyEights calculation, as of March 19, he had more than 100 House members, seven of his former challengers, 14 senators and seven governors.
Politico reports, Joe Biden has rolled up endorsements from four of the largest and most politically influential unions in the past 10 days, a show of force that has bolstered his standing as the de facto Democratic nominee for president and dealt a serious blow to Bernie Sanders flickering hopes. (Those unions are the National Education Association, the United Food and Commercial Workers, the American Federation of Teachers and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.)
He is, for all intents and purposes, the presumptive nominee, and yet Sanders announces he is going to stay in the race through New Yorks April 28 primary (unless it is moved to June 2 along with others?). He also declares he is ready for the next debate! (There is no next debate scheduled, and the chances the Democratic National Committee would countenance such a ludicrous affair are slim to none.)
Matt Bennett, head of the moderate Democratic group Third Way, tweeted: This is selfish, stupid, unforgivable. The primary is over, and we are in the midst of a world-historic catastrophe. The president is creating new disasters every day. What the hell is @BernieSanders doing?

(10,823 posts)Which all he has done to get his voice out there, all the damage he cause us Democrats to get his voice out there, to end with this whimper. Just a distant voice in the background no one is listening to. That is what happens when one allows ego to direct them.

(34,195 posts)To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star
This is my quest, to follow that star
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march
Into hell for a heavenly cause

(3,853 posts)I expect those takes like this one to be brutal. Bernie deserves the derision. There is no way he can justify continuing to campaign and accept donations given the current delegate counts and the additional issues that CV-19 present. All but his most ardent supporters should have a problem with him continuing to pursue a nomination he as already lost. This is 2016 all over again.

(67,782 posts)...of Vermont, and Northern Marianas.
Those three earned him a whopping 39 delegates combined.
So far he's only won 7-1/2 states/territories out of 30. Is he really going to win the last 27 by almost 2-1 in each???

(1,315 posts)I know a few wait-staff, bartenders and taxi drivers -- none of them cares how much corporations get - they want relief NOW because their rents and mortgage payments are coming up.
Furthermore, most Americans don't "hate" the corporations because nearly half of them work for a corporation of sorts and are afraid of being laid off if the corporations don't get funding.
Unwise move Bernie -- you'll lose by an even bigger margin now.

(4 posts)What is it to Matt Bennett, the super delegates referred to, or anyone else, that Sanders hasn't quit the primary race?
Why isn't it enough to just bask in all the wonderful attributes that Biden brings to the race, while waiting for his certain pick-up of the bulk of remaining delegates? What's the big rush to Sanders dropping out?
Also: the media loves loves loves the campaign horse race (policy discussion not so much) so this keeps Uncle Joe in the public eye, instead of ceding the spotlight entirely to Trump. What's not to like about that?
