(54,770 posts)GOPers are trying to hold up stimulus package over something minor. Sanders is saying, do it and Ill screw you.

If this were pre-South Carolina Primary, and Biden did the same, I wouldn't call it grandstanding. This is actually really important. The Republicans are trying to steal, yet again, from the working class while enriching corporations. This should not come as a shock.

(8,496 posts)...he, as a single senator, can't do a damn thing. If these last couple of weeks are anything to go by, "putting a hold" on a bill literally delays the actual vote by hours. Just a few hours -- maybe one actual legislative day in Senate time.

(33,982 posts)I get that you might not like Sanders right now, but that was absolutely the correct thing to do.

(31,261 posts)It is way too easy to throw turds from the grandstand. Senator Sanders could have been in Washington going eyeball to eyeball with republican negotiators, instead he stayed in Vermont the whole time.

(33,982 posts)The point where Sanders is objecting, is where you start to work out those issues.

(8,496 posts)And now, if there are any hiccups, work within the Democratic caucus to ensure that those issues are appropriately resolved rather than flying in after most of the hard work is done and then proclaim that he, alone, is doing something about it. Bullshit. It's grandstanding, plain and simple. He alone can't do a goddamn thing about it. If he wants something done about it, he should get his ass off Twitter, get his ass off the internet, and consult with his Senate colleagues. Of course, if he were to do that, he'd probably find out that they were already working to address the problem(s) while he was out self-promoting.

(67,782 posts)...it moot, and as noted here grandstanding and grasping for headlines.
Watch what Schumer said this morning about the bill. I suspect he knows more about what's going on than Sanders.

(31,261 posts)Watch while the difficult job of crafting legistlation that can pass is done. Criticize the legistlation as being inadequate and make threats. If the legistlation is very popular he votes for it, but he laid down his marker in case any part of it goes wrong, he can criticize democrats who helped write it.

(13,582 posts)But if he uses an archaic Senatorial point of privilege to stop a vote on the financial package before congress - all those hard workin folks waiting to find out if they will have a check to keep roof over their head and food on the table may call it a dead heat.
