Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumDon't worry about Bernie Bros
Here's why I say this: Just think of Super Tuesday: Sure,Joe had just squashed Bernie in SC, but that was just a hiccup, right? Sanders still had the unstoppable momentum, we were told by every news outlet I can think of (glaring especially hard at YOU, The Hill). But March 3 was gonna be the night that Biden was sent packing, when Bernie was going to become the inevitable nominee of a party he's never been a member of. The Progressives, The Truly Woke, the Revolutionaries, and Oh-My-God The Young People were gonna change the fundamental structure of of this country and its politics forever!
And they didn't show up.
With Joe Biden still on the ropes, with the death blow to his political career about to be delivered, with their Patron Saint Bernard poised to bring ideological purity to the messy old Democratic Party, they. Didn't. Show. Up!
And the same dame thing will pertain in November: They won't vote for Joe, but guess what? They wouldn't have voted for ANY Democratic nominee! Even if Senator Sanders Himself ended up with the nomination, they still wouldn't have shown up, because BERNIE BROS DON"T FUCKING VOTE!!!
I'm probably pissing off some people here. Maybe this will be my last post on DU. But tomorrow I'm getting tested, so I'm making sure I get this in before my 67-year-old ass possibly gets erased from existence.
Don't worry about the overhyped, ineffective Bros, Vote Blue in November, and hopefully I'll be back in a couple of days. In the meantime stay safe.
PS: Yes, I am very fond of employing boldface, italics, and occasionally underline.

"When things are not called by their right names, what is said cannot make sense. When what is said does not make sense, what is planned cannot succeed. When plans do not succeed, people become uneasy. When people are uneasy, punishments do not fit crimes. When punishments do not fit crimes, people cannot know where to put hand or foot."

(71,023 posts)took it away...ah well tell me when you come back...I know you will be back. And you are right if they don't show up for Bernie, they won't show up for us. They wouldn't have mattered in 16 but we lost the blue wall state vote by a fraction...and they are older voters generally. This year Biden will win back those states and Trump is toast...sending you get well vibes and will pray too...

(8,008 posts)Some of us "Bernie Bros" know the writing on the wall. If I were Bernie - I'd suspend my campaign. That doesn't mean that I've given up on my ideals nor does it mean I think Biden's views align. But we have facing a monster at the helm and have to react accordingly. All out to end tRump.
I seriously hope you are OK and we can fight out the idealism hear in good time.

(8,008 posts)I am a former poll worker. I remember working the polls in 2000. I was the chairperson of the precinct. One of my voters was a young man who clearly had Downs Syndrome.
He was intelligent. He knew to vote for Gore. It was obvious to him.
Forgive Bernie Bro's - it isn't clear what that means. In all groups there is a wide spectrum of individuals. It is unwise and counterproductive to group. Instead, we should work to move those who are movable.
I will admit that the first couple weeks after the South Carolina primary my hair was very much rubbed the wrong way by the Biden supporters. I have come to relax and realize it was all in the emotions of the moment (not necessarily mine = Biden Bros suffer some of the same.)
I would advise that we refrain from the "Bernie Bros" label. I believe it is counterproductive for our goals of getting rid of tRump.

(3,701 posts)They just didn't vote for Bernie. When I went to polls, back on Super Tuesday, I saw a lot of young people. Maybe they voted for Biden or Warren or one of the other candidates. Who knows? I hate this idea that only young people were interested in voting for Bernie and that if Bernie didn't secure the nomination, it would be the fault of the young people. Bernie doesn't have a monopoly on "the young people". I think a lot of people under 35 looked at Biden and saw a candidate who has an established record of getting things done and as such would have a better time working across party lines to get this country moving forward, instead of moving backwards like it has the last four years.
Either way Biden has built a strong coalition of moderates and progressives and its a shame Bernie couldn't have joined Biden in moving that coalition forward.

(1,076 posts)They didn't have the numbers they thought they did. They never did, and never were going to get their pie-in-the-sky high turnout for their poser revolution. Because they were, as always, shockingly ignorant of how to read basic polling.
Just look at their worst failure, overrating the youth vote:
They assumed that ALL young people would vote for them. They didn't bother to look at how 18-29 year olds voted in the 2016 election. They didn't pay attention to how 37% of them voted for Assholini.
They also were so naive that they never considered what 37% voting conservative said about how the other 53% would shake out. It never even occurred to them that not all of even the 53% would be "progressives." They would be on a continuum--same as any other demographic. So there would be some centrists, moderate Dems and somewhat liberal Dems in their ranks, too, and not in small numbers, either--same as any other demographic. Would the youth vote skew more liberal, overall? Yeah, sure, but not by all that much more than, say, African-Americans--and not as far left as the berner fairy tale believed they would.
This spectrum of voters can be applied to any demographic you care to name, and the results will be the same. Of the D-leaning independents and Democrats, most of them weren't on the "progressive" end of the spectrum. The vast majority of them were somewhat liberal or closer, if not at, the middle.
The numbers never were there for the supposed revolution--and that's BEFORE getting to the youth vote's piss-poor participation numbers. That's what the berners never got. And that is why they failed.

(78 posts)I'm posting this from Portage la Prairie, in Manitoba Province, Canada. Got here two days before Trudeau closed the border., staying with my cousin Rick and his Canadian wife Renee. Hopefully I'll be able to get back home soon. Tomorrow, Rick will be driving me into Winnipeg, where I've already told the people who'll be conducting the test I'm willing to pay the entire cost if Medicare won't play ball with the MHS (Manitoba Health Services Insurance Plan) people.
Oh, here's a fun fact: in Canada, while the federal government pays for health care cross-country, it is each province and territory that actually administrates its own delivery system. So much for the tyrannical, Washington-run Commie Death Panel system Ex-Gov. Sarah Fuckbrain Youbetcha pulled out of her ass!
Well, it's a tad past 1 AM AM Central, so I'll have to hit the hay shortly. Thanks for your encouragement, as well as that of others in this thread.
PS: The sadness of the situation is not lost on me; Donny Dipshit's "beautiful" tests are not yet available in my state. Fuck, fuck.and, if I might reiterate, FUCK!
