(96,043 posts)My understanding is that 'ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny' no longer taken seriously by evolutionary science. M. de Chardin seems to have been rather hazy about exactly what this 'noosphere' actually would be, and I am familiar only with some commentary on his work, by Mr. Gould. I do think he meant anything produced to design, any sort of tool or artifact, but something organic, some sequence of hereditable alterations of the body and brain. Pushed far enough, it calls to mind something of the old urschleim, an actual film over the globe of consciousness and spirit, but that hardly sounds right. The man was a monk, was not allowed to publish some of his speculative work while he was alive.
One rabbit-hole or another, eh?

NASA-Cisco climate project to flash 'Planetary Skin'
https://archive.nytimes.com/www.nytimes.com/gwire/2009/03/03/03greenwire-nasacisco-project-to-flash-planetary-skin-9959.html
Climate science isn't exactly sexy, but the name of the U.S. space agency's latest project has some sizzle.
NASA and Cisco Systems Inc. are developing "Planetary Skin" -- a marriage of satellites, land sensors and the Internet -- to capture, analyze and interpret global environmental data. Under terms of an agreement announced during a Capitol Hill climate summit today, NASA and Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO) will develop the online collaborative platform to process data from satellite, airborne and sea- and land-based sensors around the globe.
The goal is to translate the data into information that governments and businesses can use to mitigate and adapt to climate change and manage energy and natural resources more effectively, NASA and Cisco officials explained in interviews.
"There are a lot of data out there, but we have to turn that into information," explained S. Pete Worden, director of NASA's Ames Research Center. "What we are trying to do is use Cisco's expertise in data handling, put our data in there and explain what's really going on in the rainforests."
Indeed, the partners' first project, "Rainforest Skin," will focus on integrating a comprehensive sensor network in rainforests around the world. The project will examine how to capture, analyze and present information about the changes in the level of carbon dioxide -- the main heat-trapping gas -- in the Amazon and other areas. Information will be posted on the project's Web site.

President Putin scares the power elite in America because he is a compassionate, caring, visionary leader. President Putin has higher approval ratings in America then the American President. President Putin is beloved by Russia and he not going anywhere. Instead of being ensnared in the recent political intrigues (and America is trying hard to set that trap). President Putin is keeping a calm focus on his own countrys development and future, without America.

(1,089 posts)Wouldn't surprise me at all if what she originally wrote in her diary or blog or whatever the hell it was a while back is true...that Joe touched her a few times on her neck and back and made her feel uncomfortable. He's an old-style glad-hander politician who's been doing that his whole life. I've seen him do that to men as well as women...but he needs to try and tone that down in today's times. But to pull this out at the last minute and then escalate it into what they've done smacks of despicable desperation.
Plus after reading what she said about Putin and Russia it makes me question her grasp on reality...which is probably why she or somebody else is deleting all this old crap because it makes her look like a loon that hurts her credibility. Can't wait for the next Sanders supporters shoe to drop...as a result of this "sexual attack" she got pregnant so Joe the senile bisexual rapist and devout Catholic forcibly flew her to the Vatican so the Pope himself could perform an abortion.
Is this Putin's work? Probably not...but his IRA boys are scouring the internet for just such material that they can drudge up when the GE campaign starts for real. Gonna be an unbelievably dirty campaign so strap yourself in.

This is something younger people do not like to hear, but while I am a bit shy of Mr. Biden's age, I am old enough to have lived through vast changes in what was considered acceptable behavior in courting and compliment between man and women. Kinda like when Hitler set fire to the Reichstag and then blamed the communists...he actually used this incident to gain absolute control over Germany and began his full-blown dictatorship. Implemented a similar staged scheme near the Polish border that actually started WW2.

(4,035 posts)He thinks trans rights and gay marriage and Roe vs Wade are distractions from the only real issue - the economic wellbeing of the white working class. The latter is a minority of the working class, but it is the one with which Senator Sanders identifies himself, so they're the only ones that count. The idea that if you do not support what they derisively call "identity politics" - straight out of the Republican playbook, that term - makes you not a progressive they cannot understand. For them, to be progressive is to ensure that the white working class gets the money they are owed, and if they ahve to sacrifice every other minority group, then so be it.

(3,814 posts)The alt-left is culturally libertarian and fiscally hard left, and rejects 'identity politics' which they see as alienating whites. This is abundantly clear on social media where they make their feelings fully known. It's not just about Russian bots, because many actual real life Sanders supporters and media outlets (Intercept,TYT,Chapo Trap House) parrot the same narratives. Many of them were against the Mueller investigation and the impeachment, and are sympathetic to Trumpism, dislike Democrats, etc. Basically the alt-left and alt-right are two sides of the same Putin backed coin.
If Sanders really cared about expanding his movement he would've dropped out and endorsed Biden, to build good will, get people united.
But this latest stunt furthered by his supporters (and Sanders has not come out to denounce it) is why regular Dem voters will never like the Bernie Bros/alt-left because of their toxic tactics - which are indeed unique to them - despite their excuses.

(3,814 posts)If Hillary was robbed, then she's a virtuous victim and not the unpopular villain they perceive her (and the Dem party) to be.
Also because many of them are sympathetic to Russia, see Putin as a counterbalance to the Western establishment that they also dislike.

(1,089 posts)That makes sense. I tend to stick to mostly mainstream news sources and don't normally do social media stuff like Facebook or Twitter as many here follow so I haven't been exposed much to what many of Bernie's most ardent supporters and surrogates have been saying or doing. Only reason I've seen any lately is because of all the links peeps post here...a real eye-opener, boy. Anybody who admires or is sympathetic to Putin and his Russia is in no way, shape or form a true "progressive" in my book since everything about him is so antithetical to its ideals. They are truly "illiberal" as you said in a previous post.
I guess that's the problem with any extremist movement...the farther you go to the left or right on the political spectrum the more your available numbers naturally drop off...and so the more "true believers" have to resort to equally extreme measures. Worst-case is armed rebellion or violent revolution...short of bloodshed you have disinformation, deception, demagoguery, propaganda and all the other tricks in the book. Guess that's why so much of what I'm seeing lately in these Twitter links people are posting fit that description to a T.
Progressives only make up 40-45% of the Democratic Party and perhaps 15-20% tops of the entire electorate. Take out all the "normal" non-radicalized non-Bernie Bros Sanders supporters who simply like some of his policies but are not averse to switching over to another good candidate and those percentages drop even further to not much at all. Probably explains why many of these tweets coming from the hard-core Sanders camp resemble a cesspool of chaotic cockamamie crap...which is exactly the reason I've shied away from it in the first place...LOL.

The odd thing for me is that she accused him of inappropriate touching, then ramped it up a few months later to a full out sexual assault.
When I asked for a decent source I was told that she herself was the decent source.
And yet Ive only see it in the Intercept and Krystal Balls show from the Hill.

(1 post)At first glance, Biden accuser Alexandra Tara Reade is a mystery. There are few, if any, records for an individual under that name prior 2018. This is because Alexandra Tara Reade is an alias for Alexandra Tara McCabe, a former radio host, voice actor, and community college adjunct who was, until recently at least, in desperate financial straits. McCabe declared bankruptcy in 2012, listing $1,250 in assets and a staggering $406,407.44 in liabilities. Yet somehow she claims to own a horse?

The material is impressively presented, and the facial images seem to establish the identity. Much of is copies of official records, apparently. The paragraph in the post above is a fair summary of the gist of the claim, though there is good deal more detail offered, and further activities referenced.

(96,043 posts)Feel rather proud of myself, actually. I will check out your suggestion, and appreciate it, but I closed the tab once I was finished. I opened the link when that ONI fellow posted, and the tab was forgotten, and lingered as I shifted among various things, one of them preparing an 'Aeroplane in a Bottle' post for the Lounge here. When people posted the ONI stuff had been scrubbed I noticed the tab, and it still showed the content.
Still don't know, mind, that it was on the up and up. It looks good, and I have seen confirmation of the name change elsewhere (a nearby thread referencing her old twitter account), but I haven't examined the material closely. There are bankruptcy records, with an outlandish ratio of debts to assets, something on the order of four hundred to one at a glance, and some other stuff, promotional materials for some attempts at businesses mostly. All combining to give a general impression of hard times and general quirkiness, with a teaser towards the end of some on-line comment purportedly from her about her bank account. At any rate, it still exists on my machine. My small contribution to the internet never forgetting. I have no idea what to do with it save store it. I have an image hosting account, but do not it want to put it up there.

(2,522 posts)Not only do many anti-Biden folks, whether they are rooting for Sanders or Trump, have an obvious interest in keeping it alive, but so do news organizations.
For example, Vox wrote a story on this-- it broke no new ground and merely regurgitated what other people have said. They then tweeted about the story, like they do with all their stories. Here's how many "likes" each of 10 consecutive stories in their Twitter feed got:
131
22
47
74
53
10,100
40
26
51
60
Guess which one was the story on this accusation?
This is what we're stuck with. News organizations live and die by clicks and hits. And that means they're going to drool over this, even when they have nothing new to say, like Vox.

(17,760 posts)Larry Sinclair tried to peddle a story that he was President Obama's gay lover who snorted cocaine President Obama. It was fringe and the fact that Sinclair did a series of publicity stunts caused most reasonable folks to dismiss these allegations except for the fringe.
Likewise, you have a person who is an adamant Bernie/Putin supporter who is changing and embellishing her story, and it is picked of all places by the Intercept, which has had a long history of running pro-Russian, anti-Democratic stories.
Yet, BS decides to push this in an effort to once again undercut the Democratic nominee. BS cannot win based on his ideas, so he once again pushes unsubstantiated smears against his opponents.
When it was just Hillary Clinton, people could give BS the benefit of the doubt. This time around, he has smeared everyone whether its his own protege, Beto O'Rourke, to his allies, Elizabeth Warren, and now Joe Biden. BS has demonstrated that he is more than willing to traffic in smear jobs regardless of whether it harms the parties' chances of winning in November.

(58,785 posts)remember. I thought that was beyond shocking since it revealed that this person running on our Democratic ballot would smash democracy as a path to power as readily as Trump. If he could. The Republicans are just much better at it is all. Not only was Sanders not shunned by all the Democrats whose sovereignty he tried to overthrow ( ), some even supported a 2020 deja vu all over again.
Accusing Biden of rape is just more of his 7 years of slander as SOP, but good if this finally is the last straw on a very tall and putrid pile. This populist candidacy needs to die and stop shaming and corrupting our party and kicking at the foundations of our democracy.
