Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumSadly the Sanders Campaign is still on the attack against Joe Biden...
THIS is why he should end his campaign and get behind Biden, if nothing but to end the divisive and destructive assault on our nominee. This is just a sample of what they're doing on Twitter:

I think I might block Sanders thread.
Sometimes I think they get posted here to rile us up. Im tired of that.
Im taking a new road:
Joe Biden is our next President.
I confident. No more such and such is handing anything to a trump win.
Confidence is just as persuasive as fear and snark.
I am confident in our road to the White House.

(96,043 posts)At least those people, in attacking Mr. Blair over Iraq, attacked someone who actually did lead his country to war.
Insisting every Senator who cast a vote for the authorization resolution shortly before the 2002 election personally killed hundreds of thousands is nonesnse. No one beyond a tiny clique gives a rosy red rat's ass about the matter. They could all be accommodated in the basketball gym of a large rural high school, with undue crowding....
"From Bernies perspective, dropping out of a race once you have no chance of winning is peculiar behavior that can only be explained by the work of a hidden hand. For most politicians, though, it is actually standard operating procedure. Only Sanders seems to think the normal thing to do once voters have made clear they dont want to nominate you is to continue campaigning anyway."
"When things are not called by their right names, what is said cannot make sense. When what is said does not make sense, what is planned cannot succeed. When plans do not succeed, people become uneasy. When people are uneasy, punishments do not fit crimes. When punishments do not fit crimes, people cannot know where to put hand or foot."

(11,027 posts)authorize the use of force in Iraq killed hundreds of thousands. They insist, as they always have, that Biden is the only one responsible for those thousands of deaths. In all of their hundreds of instances of fake anger and indignation, it never occurred to them even once to blame anyone else.
This brazen hypocrisy pisses me off even more than their blatant disregard for the truth of the matter. It's as if their entire narrative is intended exclusively for the idiots who have their eyes closed to both.

(96,043 posts)It will be anyone who seems to stand in the way of 'Bernie', Sir.
And if they are trying to primary a sitting Senator, if he or she voted for that resolution it will be trotted out, and with the air of leveling a devastating charge, too....

(96,043 posts)Again, it is a mark of naivite not only about politics but about military operations.
Iraq is best invaded in early spring, if it is going to be done at all. I have some interest in Great War history, and am familiar with Townsend's campaign in 1915. He did not begin moving north till the end of May. He ran into flooding and terrible heat that greatly hampered his operations. Late March is a sort of 'sweet spot', and you may be sure anything I know is well known to our military staffs. Mounting an operation of this sort is not a whim of the moment. It takes months to get everything assembled and ready for action, half a year at least. There is no room whatever for doubt, given when the invasion did occur, that preparations for invading Iraq were underway before the authorization resolution was even presented to the Senate. The thing was going to happen, it had been decided on, and had been set in motion.
The authorization resolution was a quite clever political trap. Recall the Democrats had a mere tie in the Senate, secured by defection of a single Republican shortly after Bush was allowed to take office. Had the resolution been defeated, the looming campaign would have been fought on the line of 'Democrats are soft on Sadam! Democrats side with the enemy!" The result would have been great success for the Republicans, a decimation of our Senate cadre. The Republicans would not have gained two but perhaps a half-dozen seats. The first business of the new Senate would have been passing the authorization resolution, to great patriotic, support our President, fanfare, and all this done in plenty of time for the scheduled invasion to proceed as planned. A unanimous vote by Democrats against the resolution would not have slowed the thing by so much as one hour. It was correctly assumed by many Democrats, especially those with ambitions higher than the Senate, that a vote against the resolution would tar their prospects badly. It is only with a fairly small clique of left radicals a vote for the resolution is seen as evidence of perfidious thirst for war and blood, and a reason to saddle any who did not vote against it with full responsibility for the actions of the Bush administration.

Still, good light combat experience for when we get to the general election. These alt-lefts on Bernie's side are rank amateurs compared to the seasoned veterans on the alt-right. Plus those reich-wing fascists have FOX News for heavy artillery instead of some obscure Twitter accounts so they got a lot more firepower.
Gonna be fun so better do a weapons check and resupply your ammo stock.

(1,089 posts)and there's not much else we can do these days to have some fun with everybody holed up and hunkered down...LOL.
I'm not real big on squabbling with my fellow lefties...would much rather rip Republicans than try to demolish Democrats, which is probably why I watch very little of the debates. Come summer when the general campaign starts in earnest I'll probably post here much less...while it's nice to be among allies for a little R&R, when the war starts for real we can't stay safely behind the front lines at a friendly rearward base forever...gotta head up to the front, fulfill your duty and do battle with the true enemy.
If you come across any forums or sites that have a good mix of Democrats and Republicans in the future lemme know and maybe I'll join you one day...we can spread some fact-based lead together and kill us some cons.

(8,736 posts)At this point I doubt Bernie will ever concede. Hell, I bet he'll still be howling about how "the elites" and "the establishment" stole it from him the day after Biden is inaugurated.
I wonder if it makes sense for all Dems to start the national campaign as if Bernie doesn't even exist. Because as a leader, an "inspiration" as a progressive even--he doesn't.
If it's Biden versus Trump, and Sanders continues this shit, then it'll be obvious (if it isn't already) that Bernie and his hard core supporters would prefer a Trump victory. I think Susan Sarandon's statement in 2016 still reflects their thinking: that the more people suffer, the better the chances of "the revolution" happening. As long as they're not the ones suffering, of course.

(96,043 posts)Declare only one Democrat remains in contention, and proceed appropriately....
There is no question 'Bernie' knowingly presents our Party with the threat that a number of his supporters will not vote for anyone but him, and therefore he should be given concession after concession. The problem is that 'Bernie' really couldn't bring them along if attempts to buy him off were made. He deliberately tries to inflame supporters to such a heat that if he did try and bring them along with an endorsement of the winner, some would surely just denounce 'Bernie' as a sell-out. He has 'called up that which he cannot put down'.
That said, a number like this is unlikely to hold through to November. Some of this just reflects the heat of battle, and will have cooled considerably by the time the actual choice, Mr. Biden or the cheap thug Trump, is present in the voting booth.

(889 posts)Joe is the presumptive nominee. No doubt about that. But the primaries are not over. So every remaining candidate - and their supporters - have every right to criticize every other candidate.
My opinion on that will change once Joe has a mathematical lock on the nomination. But we are not there yet. To demand that all debate and criticism be shut down now...thats about as undemocratic as you can get.

(28,356 posts)The only reason that 538 doesn't have Biden at 100% is because their model considers the possibility that he would drop out for health reasons, etc. Even considering that possibility, Sanders has a 0.1% chance of winning the nomination.
It's over. Sanders and some of his supporters just refuse to accept that it's over.
