Democratic Primaries

On Tuesday night, one day after welcoming Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) to the programand witnessing him go in on grotesque Republicans for nickel-and-diming the poor in the recent coronavirus stimulus billSeth Meyers brought on Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), his former rival candidate for the presidency.
When the Late Night host asked her whether either of the remaining candidates for the Democratic nomination for president, Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden, has asked her to serve as their running mate, she said no.
-snip-
You havent endorsed a candidate yet, and it certainly seems like your positions line up more in lockstep with Senator Sanders than they do with Joe Biden. Are you going to endorse, or is this something youre considering to wait on? asked the comedian.
Warren dodged the question. You know, again, I really want to say that, right now, its less about the politics and much more about the crisis that our country is in, and I think thats really where our focus has got to be at this moment, she replied. So thats where Im keeping my attention right now. We dont get to do any political rallies at this moment anyway.

(313 posts)What makes anybody think that she's obligated to endorse Bernie or anybody else? Or for that matter to tell Seth Myers or anybody else? (Yeah Seth, I'm going to reveal to YOU an important political decision that might affect my political career and somebody else's presidential campaign.)
And you Bernie supporters who think that he's entitled to her endorsement, y'all got some balls demanding that, given your stances on endorsements.
Yeah, y'all say s*it about her now. But let me tell you this: In 2016 she was approached by somebody in Congress and encouraged to run for the Democratic nomination for President. Being that she's a loyal Democrat and didn't want to step on the toes of the presumptive nominee, Hillary Clinton, she declined. The person who approached her was...Bernie Sanders. So GTFOH about Bernie being "sooo different". He wanted Warren to do his dirty work for him, she was smarter than that.
And now, still being smart, she wants to pick the right horse. Now tell me this; who is he going to pick for VP? You know it won't be a Democrat; lest y'all object to him picking 'an Establishment Democrat" and nobody wants to stake their political future on a losing campaign. So what'cha gonna do?

(1,659 posts)In a democracy, people should be free to choose or be undecided or wait until the right time. I also support important things, too, like the democracy of the primary until it's over when I will throw support to Biden, just like Warren. People shouldn't be forced to choose before it's time in a free country like we have.

(1,556 posts)by endorsing either of them.
Biden will likely be the nominee. He doesn't need any more endorsements. If he wishes to woo progressives in great numbers, he can always add Warren to the ticket as VP.
Sanders has not been kind to Warren during the course of the campaign. Why would she stick her neck out for him either?
If Biden wins, he will likely be a one-term president because I don't see voters being excited about reelecting someone who would be 82-86 during their second term. Whomever his VP is will likely have a large field to run against in 2024 just like in 2020, and I would expect that to include Warren (a likely front-runner), who will not want to do anything to damage her chances with progressives by endorsing Biden over Sanders unless she's getting something out of it (like the VP slot.)

(58,785 posts)The mistaken notion that she's AT ALL similar to Sanders is what tanked any chance she had to become a real competitor.
We've been here before, remember? Sanders asked her multiple times in 2015-2016 to endorse him. She refused and endorsed Hillary, would have pursued her goals as Hillary's VP if it had turned out that way.
Btw, anyone given a minute's thought to imagining Sanders with a strong male OR female VP questioning his decisions and advising differently? Even if such a person would be stupid enough to accept an offer, he'd only make it to win then send his VP to BFE.
