Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumOne good thing about having Biden as the presumptive nominee right now...
...is that he's pretty much universally known. With the media attention decidedly off the 2020 race, had we nominated anyone other than Biden at this point, we'd be losing crucial time building up a positive, solid narrative about our candidate.
People pretty much know Joe. It's why I think he's been able to sustain his lead vs Trump in the polls despite seeing much less TV time. A more unknown candidate might be able to, too, with how Trump has handled all this but I don't think it's near the sure thing since, in times of crisis, it's normal to look for a stable voice - but more importantly, a familiar voice and name.
An unknown voice, no matter how competent, may have been completely drown out by this. Even more, it's almost as if we don't need Biden to prove his competence. Fair or not, his name, the association with being Obama's VP, tells us of that competence so he really doesn't need to sell the idea he's competent to a vast majority of this country like other candidates would unfortunately have to do.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

(15,729 posts)But that's not necessarily a good thing for him. Where he looks and sounds like a completely incompetent idiot, Joe has shown himself to be everything we could want in a leader.
Be careful what you wish for, Donnie.

(15,751 posts)Cooledge, with 25% unemployment and mostly single earner large families, stocks down 90% or so -
Hoover in 1932 got 40% of the vote. [Voters did get better in the following years].
[trump here has a big, fast, drop' market; the virus not yet played out, and treason stuff lurking in the wings]

(13,911 posts)So any question about that is moot. He is by far the most qualified, the most fit, the most deserving person to raise that all-important officeback to the level of dignity and respect it needs. We need a true leader, not an embecile.

(11,508 posts)Sounds almost quaint in the Trump era but people trust Joe Biden. They trust he knows what to do and how to do it. They trust his expertise and knowledge after many years as a public servant and having served as Obama's wingman. More importantly, they trust Biden's heart, his basic decency.
After 3+ years of having a faux-president, the current Squatter-in-Chief, the Conman/Thug extraordinaire, people hunger for actual leadership, a captain to take the wheel and navigate the Ship of State away from the treacherous shoals of deceit, disinformation and malignant, willful ignorance.
And yes, Joe Biden is a known quantity. He doesn't need to introduce himself to the American public because he's been a mainstay in politics for decades. Uncle Joe, Riding' with Biden, the No Malarkey Express. Corny but comfortable. I've always thought of a Biden presidency as a transitional step, the one we needed to put the train back on the track so we could get onto the urgent needs of the country, the world. But who knows? He might surprise us. In a good way.
