Sanders just said he'll stay on the ballot, continue gaining delegates to give him as much leverage
as possible over the party platform.

(47,737 posts)If they do that, whoever might want to run as a Dem could run as an independent. Imagine the harm Bernie could do if he were to run in November. All his fans would vote for him, and Trump would win easily.
It's galling to have to put up with this, but a third party or independent candidate could do much worse.

(148,604 posts)It simply will not be tolerated. Shortly, the name of this forum will change, and the owners of this forum will accept Joe Biden as the presumptive nominee. Such statements about the nominee will not be permitted without consequences.
What happens elsewhere, of course, cannot be controlled. The voters, however, will understand who the nominee will be, and will act accordingly, I believe. This election season belongs to Joe Biden and Donald Trump from now on.

(148,604 posts)a great deal. Joe Biden will have a majority of delegates well before the convention. Most voters will not cast their vote for someone who has withdrawn from the race. A few might, just as a few are still voting for other candidates who have withdrawn. Bernie Sanders will have difficulty reaching the 15% threshold in most states and will thus win no delegates or only a few in some districts.
Voters know who is still running and most will not waste their votes on those who are not.
When primary voting resumes, and it will, you'll see.

(53,544 posts)The DNC does not control what happens in state primaries. I've been saying that for a long time when people kept saying the DNC was manipulating the primaries. Anyone that has any knowledge of elections would know that is not true.
The DNC does not determine how a candidate gets on the ballot.
Each state have their own requirements. Petitions and/or filing fees.
The DNC does not determine the deadline candidates must file by.
The states do.
The DNC does not decide when or where primaries are held.
The states and local government does.
The DNC does not assign election workers to conduct elections.
The county election boards and in some cases city government does.
The DNC does not determine the rules and requirements in running elections.
The state election division or equivalent does.
As for removal of a candidate from the ballot. The DNC does not have that power.
Removal from the ballot at the state level is determine by state code and I do not believe there is a law in any state that provides for automatic removal from the ballot when a candidate suspends their campaign for a primary. It would be different if it was for the general election. For a candidate to be removed from a primary ballot would in most cases require someone filing an appeal due to a candidate not meeting specific requirements.

Past performance predicts future actions, and Mr Grinch has 30 years in DC of zero significant legislation because hes a slacker and has zero concept of how to play well with others. If you think those same traits wouldnt result in M4A getting shellacked, then politics may not be for you.

Why dont you ask the backbencher from Vermont how his states bid for single-payer played out? In a state that could have easily made it happen, since it has such a small population.
Because it was an epic fail, in case you didnt notice.
Employers didnt want their taxes going up by a quarter, and taxpayers didnt want up to 9.5 increases in their state taxes to pay for it.
But you keep living in la-la land where its easy to make all that happen on a population 52800% larger than Vermonts.
At least I have a real world example of an attempt at a real single payer attempt in the US to cite, while you have, hmonly speculation.

This not some campus clique of Marxists, not some five hundred strong convention' of the Socialist Workers Party. In those sorts of things, platforms and manifestos do matter, because they show who is in and who is out within the group.
The platform of a major national party is today a meaningless document. It neither directs nor binds actions during a campaign, or when in office.
The man betrays an unerring instinct for the capillary in taking planks of the platform as he chief object at any stage of a political campaign.
"When things are not called by their right names, what is said cannot make sense. When what is said does not make sense, what is planned cannot succeed. (3,853 posts)I knew any praise for him withdrawing was premature. Bernie simply isn't capable of leaving the stage. He has NO damn leverage. Biden has agreed to add the free public college which I think was already in the Dem platform. Bernie's a damn Prima Donna and that won't ever change.

(44,086 posts)He's dropped out - that's what the media is reporting. Most people are not going to even hear about his half-in, half-out move. He's not going to be able to raise funds/pay staff on a campaign of "I'm out...I'm sort of in."
He's trying to have his cake and eat it too and it will not go well. It only makes him look petty.

But hell no.
He couldnt even hack it as a committee chair overseeing VA. Obama + Congress had to work around him to get private sector health care for vets because BS couldn't get past his government health care ideology enough to acknowledge a problem existed at one of his precious single payer health plans (VA):

Hed make the same mistakes as HHS secretary, with far more devastating consequences.

The party platform in modern times has no force whatsoever. Bernie can take bragging rights for including an aspirational clause or two that will probably never come to pass, but Biden will campaign (and, hopefully, govern) on his own agenda. Nobody reads the platform, and Democratic candidates can pick and choose the planks they wish to run on.
Its just an aspirational vision statement, full of sound and fury but signifying very little. What Joe Biden chooses to speak about and espouse at the convention, whether virtual or live, will be the real platform for 2020 and hopefully the next four years.

Bernie is now completely irrelevant. I'm sure that gives Jane a sad but it give me immense peace.
I could give two fucks if he endorses Biden.
How long before he claims not to be a Democrat again?
