Is it possible for Joe to name his running mate now

I feel that whoever he picks it will add a lot of energy to his campaign which Trump has hijacked with the cover of corona virus.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Nothing says he can't name his running-mate - but, like with Biden, they'll only be the presumptive running-mate, as they would still need to be nominated at the convention. Over the years, we've given that authority to the presidential candidate but a few decades ago, the running mate was often chosen on the floor of the convention and not always the first choice of the candidate.

Hell, back in the way olden days, the losing candidate in the general could become the vice president!

He probably wants to get a sense of what feels right when Election Day is closer. And also see where all the possible contenders stand by the time of the convention.

Ya do that early if you need a game changer. If you are behind, want to change the conversation or make up some ground. VP pick is a big deal... you want it to have maximum impact. I think not only is Biden doing very well at this point, people are so focused on other world events it would likely get kinda lost in shuffle. I think he’s better off waiting bit. Closer to the convention, or at least a couple months down the road. At a point where the announcement had a shot of being the biggest news of the day.

You have to roll these things out strategically
Big focus of this news cycle is Bernie finally suspending. Others will be:

Biden giving prime time address to unveil policy proposals

Obama coming out to strongly endorse

Televised event with bipartisan endorsements including current GOP

Raft of Newspapers endorsing

1. There are 7 months to go.

2. Corona virus and the Biden momentum are the top issues, followed by the broader economic and health system issues.

3. Joe is likely not done with vetting.

4. Some politicians may rise up or down with the winds, and the winds are getting stronger.

5. Don't give the Republicans the early chance to attack. Let all the possible VP candidates support each other.

One more thing, Wisconsin needs help. Headlines in the New York Times and Buzzfeed is not what I mean.

Wisconsin is not a blue state or a purple state in terms of political power.

Wisconsin needs ballots, poll workers and GOTV of all time.

Wisconsin needs star power. Or Joe might not get the win here.

to garner excitement. Let's not have him peak too early, now. No one's attention is on a general election at the moment anyway; better to wait until some modicum of normalcy returns, and it can become news closer to election time.

Besides, I never have been able to understand the importance placed on a candidate's choice of vice president. It can help with demographics a little bit, but mostly that person will be a "beard" for the presidential candidate. In the end, it has to be someone the candidate feels he can work with and trust, to help him (or her) execute his (or her) agenda in the course of the presidency.

the vice president pick is very important. Biden is no spring chicken and there's a massive possibility that he may not serve 2 terms. With that as a scenario I think that the public are looking at the chosen vp as the future president.
