Ballots are a 9 hour ride to the US Embassy.
Currently driving restrictions are much stricter here. Only allowed 75 KM and only food and drugs. Oh and emergencies.
So thats kinda out for now.

(42,862 posts)I'm already seeing "warnings" that the fringe left is demanding Biden "to pick the right VP" (as some sort of "consolation prize", I suppose) or be prepared to suffer the consequences when they don't show up to vote.
Heaven help us all.

(42,862 posts)Uh huh, right.
I guess the anger and defiant and bargaining phase grief are still strong.
By the way, did you know that there is no particular order for the stages of grief. And people can enter, leave and re-enter any of the stages... and people can be in more than one "stage" at the same time. But, it's certainly my hope that people do better with the mere loss of a political candidate than they do over the loss of a loved one. The "love and adoration" is very strong among some... and the ability to accept facts and deal with the reality of the situation is a challenge for many.
All I'm trying to say is that I hope those individuals are able to move on and find peace.

(2,412 posts)Keeping the conflicts going is not serving our country well. So young people want to have a say in the platform, nothing wrong with that. Please stop bashing them. I am 74 and can see that continuing this conflict will not end well for our party.

(96,043 posts)Sometimes things really are that simple, and this is one of them.
"When things are not called by their right names, what is said cannot make sense. When what is said does not make sense, what is planned cannot succeed. When plans do not succeed, people become uneasy. When people are uneasy, punishments do not fit crimes. When punishments do not fit crimes, people cannot know where to put hand or foot."

They seem to feel the NEED to be courted, but the more political astute ones are voting for Biden because they are rightfully scared, and are decent people.
The DNC conspiracy theory ones think Bernie still has a chance and will never vote for Biden, those are more acquaintances, that jump into the conversation

(53,465 posts)That is idea is total bullshit.
It just exposes their lack of knowledge about the candidates and how the government works.
I always look at it as which is the best qualified candidate. In many cases, there is no problem in identifying them.

(8,742 posts)We're talking about the survival of what's left of our democracy.
And you DO have a choice. You can choose between a man who has dedicated his life to public service, is empathetic to those in need and those who suffer (in part because his own life has seen great suffering), a person of high intelligence who knows how to pull together teams of competent people to work through problems, who respects science and has a grasp of objective reality, and who takes seriously his oath to uphold democratic principles and to defend the Constitution;
or
You can vote for a reptilian grifter who doesn't give a shit about you, me or anyone else on this planet who isn't named Trump or won't fill his pockets with dirty money and his empty head with praise, a man who appoints absolute non-entities to the most important posts in government, thereby compromising our security and our health, a racist, misogynist demagogue who would just as soon wipe his ass on the Constitution as pay even lip service to its guarantees of rights and due process; a man who puts children in cages, dispenses lethal "medical" advice, who has and will continue to gut environmental protections, a man who only admires authoritarians and sociopaths and who is himself a textbook example of a narcissist willing to allow tens or maybe hundreds of thousands of your countrymen and women to die because he won't take advice and can't be bothered to exert himself to learn the basic rudiments required for the job.
Sedaris of course set it better and more succinctly. But THAT is perhaps the starkest, most glaringly obvious choice we have ever had to make in our national politics, certainly in my lifetime and possibly yours as well.
It isn't necessary for you to be "excited." It is only necessary that you care for your fellow human beings who will have to live with the consequences of this next election.
