(47,872 posts)Came back to LA for a few years, but my wife and I both wanted to leave, it is so much less stressful over here. If Rump wins reelection and we fail to take back the Senate, I have no clue what I will do, as we are dealing with Brexit as well.

(9,688 posts)especially when I'm there on a professional basis, for a workshop or conference or (one blissful time) a temporary short-term residency, I'm struck by how life seems more balanced there than in the U.S.

(47,872 posts)is a massive driver, as is zero stress from healthcare bill worries for most places, and again, in many nations here, almost free or very lost cost tertiary education costs (tuition wise), and also Europeans get far, far more paid vacation days than the US, which has the least in the entire OECD. Also the US is the only OECD nation with zero guaranteed maternity leave, and when you do a productivity PER HOUR WORKED, the US (which is told that the American worker is the most productive in the world) drops like a rock.
The worlds richest countries guarantee mothers more than a year of paid maternity leave. The U.S. guarantees them nothing.
