Sanders won't vote for new bipartisan USMCA trade agreement - Sixth Democratic debate

Dec 19, 2019

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., says he will not support the new partisan trade agreement among the United States, Canada and Mexico that was passed by the House of Representatives on Dec. 19. While supporters, PBS NewsHour anchor and managing editor Judy Woodruff said, include union-friendly leaders like House speaker Nancy Pelosi and the AFL-CIO, Sanders says he does not believe it will be a job creator, stop outsourcing, or stop corporations from moving to Mexico where manufacturing workers make less than $2 an hour. What we need, he said, “is a trade policy that stands up for workers, stands up for farmers, and by the way, the word climate change, to the best of my knowledge, is not discussed in this new NAFTA agreement at all, which is an outrage.” Sanders' comments came during the Dec. 19 PBS NewsHour/POLITICO Democratic debate. Sanders is one of the seven Democrats vying for their party's 2020 presidential nomination.
