MAQUOKETA, Ia. U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren spent a morning in eastern Iowa on Sunday knocking on the doors of potential supporters. While she spent some time in Iowans' living rooms, she was also able to have some spontaneous interactions with neighbors on the street, too.
Travis Dontje, a forklift operator from Maquoketa, peered out his window to see the crew of cameras trailing the senator from Massachusetts so he decided to take his two daughters out to greet her.
Warren approached the 40-year-old on a sidewalk outside the door on which she had just knocked. She did her signature pinky promise with 6-year-old Krysten and greeted 4-year-old Gracie in her father's arms. The Democratic presidential candidate then got Dontje to sign a "commit to caucus" card for her.
Dontje told the Des Moines Register he and his wife will likely caucus for Warren, but is also considering former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg. He said they like that Warren is "willing to cross the lines and work for everyone" and has placed a special focus on education.
"She's willing to work for my girls here," he said, pointing to the pair clad in colorful coats and stocking caps.
Later, Warren was greeted by two supporters who asked for her autograph on an "Iowa for Warren" yard sign. Both said they plan to caucus for her.
