My own non cancer experience was with a recent cardiac cath at Adventist Health Care. They wouldn't even complete my registration until I paid them for the procedure, even though they couldn't tell me how much it would be. I ended up making up a number ($500) that they could charge to my credit card in order to get my procedure started. I wonder how it would have played out if I was poor, and had no insurance or credit card.

When it comes to cancer, and people being denied care, I have a friend in this fight. I've known this kid for almost 30 years. He is in a tough position because healthcare is tied to employment, and employment is tied to good health. Now he has neither. I'm going to link to his GoFundMe because his Mom tells the story well, and more importantly, this illustrates what healthcare in America has come down to: GoFundMe campaigns.
