Oprah Winfrey endorses Kamala Harris at DNC Day 3: 'Let us choose joy' - FOX 5 News Atlanta

Oprah Winfrey spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Wednesday, making the case for uniting as Americans and upholding democracy.

Winfrey, who said she's a registered independent voter, listed all the states in which she’s lived, drawing cheers from the crowd.

“I've seen racism and sexism and income inequality and division. I've not only seen it, at times I've been on the receiving end of it. But more often than not what I've witnessed and experienced are human beings, both conservative and liberal who may not agree with each other, but who'd still help you in a heartbeat if you were in trouble,” Winfrey said.

On a night focused on fighting “for our freedoms,” from democracy to reproductive rights and more, Winfrey argued for civilized debate and abortion rights. And she alluded to former President Donald Trump’s proclivity for social media outrage, as well as comments made years ago by his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, about “childless cat ladies” in government.

"Despite what some would have you think, we are not so different from our neighbors. When a house is on fire, we don't ask about the homeowner's race or religion. We don't wonder who their partner is or how they voted. No, we just try to do the best we can to save them,” Winfrey said. “And if the place happens to belong to a childless cat lady - well, we try to get that cat out too.”

She urged the crowd to choose joy, to choose freedom, to choose Harris. - Aired on 08/21/2024.

absolutely breathtaking in so many respects. She absolutely blew me away.

The first time I ever laid eyes on her was on the Big screen, back in the 80's in the film Color Purple.

And I only saw her show once, when I was visiting my grandmother and we stopped by to see her friend who had it on! And I was impressed with her speech as well, each speech was so well done, terrific lineup again last night!

I didn't realize she was a registered Independent. I respect and understand her preference. We have experienced years of intolerable status quo policies that have negatively impacted our communities and country which were in dire need of change, and I sometimes wonder if it were not for the shocking unthinkable reality of such psychotic sociopath getting installed as President, did a great deal to bring us to the point of Kamala Harris rise to potentially become the first Woman President, and a person of color to boot.
It doesn't hurt that she's eye candy, and exudes an inner beauty and strength of character that cannot be faked, and air of eternal optimism we've been so desperately in need of.
I almost have to pinch myself, this is happening
We are on the verge of Victory, and we cannot allow it to be diminished or destroyed in any way
Of course, I am not in any way discounting the amazing work and accomplishments of Biden and his administration. Were it not for his choice in Harris as his running mate, we may not be here.

I am hoping that the current cabinet members and staff are kept in place, with the exception of the Attorney General, which I hope is replaced. . I think it's time for him to retire. I don't even want to see him appointed to the supreme court or any court. for that matter.

Or whether Harris/Walz can keep up this momentum. And of course we know that TFG and his Project 2025 comrades are planning on new ways to cheat. I've listened to Liz Cheney's book about the 2020 election, TFG's refusal to listen to anyone who told him he lost, the violent insurrection and how he refused to listen to everyone who begged him to stop it, and the investigations and conclusions of the J6 Committee. And given all the evidence of his criminal behavior, I can't believe that he hasn't been tried and convicted after all this time, let alone allowed to run to lead the government he attempted to overthrow.

That said, this DNC was certainly an all-star lineup and the crowd was obviously thrilled - and it's not even over yet. And, as has been said, many of the scheduled speakers were former Republicans as were those who testified for the J6 Committee.
