Tim Walz delivers pep talk in full speech at 2024 Democratic National Convention Day 3 - PBS NewsHour

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz formally accepted the vice presidential nomination, a day before Vice President Kamala Harris takes the stage as the official nominee.

On the third night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Walz spent time telling the audience more about his personal story, including the difficulties he and his wife Gwen faced when starting a family.

Walz presented himself as an advocate for personal freedoms, distilling his view to: “Mind your own damn business.”

Leaning into his coaching days, Walz then made a case for why Democrats “got something better to offer the American people.”

“I haven’t given a lot of big speeches like this, but I have given a lot of pep talks,” Walz said. “Let me finish with this, team: It’s the fourth quarter. We’re down a field goal, but we’re on offense and we got the ball. We’re driving down the field. And boy do we have the right team! Kamala Harris is tough!”

“Our job, for everyone watching, is to get in the trenches and do the blocking and tackling,” he added. - Aired on 08/21/2024.

Not worth mentioning. I've heard a lot of highly educated people screw up compound personal pronouns. mobeau69 Aug 22 #6
I'm aware of all that, but the VP job involves a LOT of contact with foreign leaders DFW Aug 22 #8

I just wish he wouldn't use the Republicanese "This is personal for Gwen and I." It really grates on the ears.

Easy rule: in English, if you say, "It's personal for me," then you say "It's personal for Gwen and me."
If you say, "it's personal for I," then you say, "it's personal for Gwen and I."

Nobody says, "It's personal for I."

Other than that, quite the barnstormer!

Many of them speak better English that half our politicians. If our people are to be taken seriously, they can't be making simple errors that the foreign leaders would have recognized as incorrect before they were twelve years old. It is imperative that our highest representatives come across as educated and serious to their counterparts in other countries. It may seem as trivial on US cable TV. It is not trivial when NATO or the UN meets. The VP job is a level above football. If Walz is to represent us in these circles, he can't come across as a Democratic Dan Quayle. He's WAY smarter than that, but having convinced the American voter of that isn't enough to play in Brussels, Jerusalem, Riyadh or Tokyo. If he doesn't talk like it, he won't be taken seriously. Trump may get 40% of the vote in the USA, but outside of Hungary, there isn't one NATO country that would give him 15%.

The Walz family. Real family love on display. That was not an act.
His past students. Same thing. They love their teacher/coach. Tremendous affection.
The story about Tim & his wife finding the extra coaching job so they could pay off a students lunch debts ....

When have we ever seen or heard such things about Trump that were emotional and genuine demonstrating that he gave of himself - not just threw money at it?
