LIVE: Biden delivers final U.N. speech amid global turmoil as election nears - MSNBC

This discussion thread is pinned.

President Joe Biden will address the United Nations General Assembly for the final time as commander in chief Tuesday morning amid the spiraling conflict in the Middle East, Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine and growing global concerns about China’s influence. His speech comes against the backdrop of the presidential race on its final leg before Election Day, knowing that his successor — Vice President Kamala Harris or former President Donald Trump — will face the same issues in the White House and may deal with them very differently. - 09/24/2024.

President of the United States. It bewilders me even now. He actually spoke before this same body, and was laughed at.

"Our task is to make sure that the forces holding us together are stronger than those pulling us apart;
that the principles of partnership that we came here each year to uphold, can withstand the challenges; that the center holds once again.
My fellow leaders, I truly believe we're at another inflection point in world history -- that the choices we make today will determine our future for decades to come:
-- Will we stand behind the principles that unite us,
-- will we stand firm against aggression,
-- will we end the conflicts that are raging today,
-- will we take on global challenges like climate change, hunger and disease,
-- will we plan now for the opportunities and risks of the revolutionary new technologies....

“It’s your people that matter the most. Never forget we are here to serve the people. Not the other way around.” ...

“There is so much more I want to get done. But as much as I love the job I love my country more. Some things are more important than staying in power.”

I firmly believe God is with this man, and so with this nation. The world needs to see our steadfast trustworthiness and to trust in us, going forward.
