It revealed that the guard-rails that the authors of the US Constitution placed in the document to limit the power of a chief executive and prevent him from becoming a dictator are weak and broken. When presented with a chief executive who knowing broke the law and with a chief executive who sought to remain in power by overturning the process of actually electing a new president, the cowards in the US Senate chose to put their political careers ahead on the US Constitution and voted to acquit him. At least one federal court knowingly ignored presidential malfeasance and tossed a case against him for hoarding top-secret federal documents. There are numerous other actions, but the truth is shockingly clear--there is very little preventing the US federal government from being turned from a representative republic into an authoritarian dictatorship.
Those of our descendants who cherish freedom will be cursing our memory and our actions if Donald Trump is elected President of the United States this November.
