Why The Washington Post decided to opt out of a presidential endorsement - PBS NewsHour

For the first time in 36 years, The Washington Post will not endorse a presidential candidate. Publisher and CEO William Lewis explained, "We are returning to our roots of not endorsing presidential candidates.” It comes after The Los Angeles Times publisher blocked a planned endorsement of Vice President Harris. Amna Nawaz discussed more with Sewell Chan of Columbia Journalism Review. - Aired on 10/25/2024.

was always about having a mammoth mouthpiece to defend Amazon from any and all criticism and to promote any view that Bezos wants on anything else. I've always said that a big pile of money is often controlled by an even bigger backstabbing coward.

Part of the reason we're in trouble is the media is not taking a stand.

Somebody has threatened the owners of both newspapers with retaliation or with some kind of personal exposure if they endorse Harris.

Initially I thought that they were engaging in anticipatory obedience, aka, protecting themselves in case Trump wins. But the timing, which involves both papers, makes me believe that they received credible threats.
