More than 3,000 Israelis have signed an open letter urging "global pressure on Israel to force an immediate ceasefire." The signatories say they are motivated by patriotic duty to stop the country's war crimes in Gaza and beyond, but say the lack of sanctions from other countries has allowed Israel to continue to pursue war, abandon the hostages still held in Gaza, ignore domestic opposition and persecute Palestinian citizens of Israel without real cost. "Unfortunately, the majority of Israelis support the continuation of the war and massacres, and a change from within is not currently feasible. The state of Israel is on a suicidal path and sows destruction and devastation that increase day by day," reads the letter. For more, we speak with Neve Gordon, professor of international law and human rights at Queen Mary University of London, one of the signatories of the open letter, who says international powers including allies like the United States need to "put their leg down and say enough is enough." We also speak with him about Israel's well-documented history of using Palestinians as human shields, including in its current war on Gaza.

(57,471 posts)chance of survival? Do most Israelis really want Israel to continue being the bully nation that bombs it's neighboring countries and continues to bomb and kill in Gaza with no regard as to what it does to it's international image?
That's saying that it's not just warmonger Netanyahu and Likud, it's what the majority of the nation wants.
IMO that's shameful. It's like they're saying who cares about the remaining hostages. Unfortunately they're
collateral damage...the cost of war.
One thing that seems inaccurate in the text under the video is the following: "We also speak with him about Israel's well-documented history of using Palestinians as human shields, including in its current war on Gaza."
I'm not quite understanding that as Hamas is the one known for using Palestinians for human shields.
That must be a misquote, or someone is quite uninformed.

(60,130 posts)I've heard of this taking place from other sources before these incidents reported by CNN.
I suppose if you can wipe out an entire population or a society with civilians; numbering well over 2 million people taking their human being designation away under the pretense that they're just "shields" then this is a natural extension.
That's why ultimately I don't believe Netanyahu cares anymore about the Israeli hostages than he does the suffering Palestinians in Gaza or the West Bank.
The irony is because of their carte blanche mass punishment of civilian populations across the Middle East Netanyahu's government has lost or is losing their humanity along with their moral compasses.
As I've stated before I believe Netanyahu's long time family friend and *rump's son in law/shadow diplomat will be investing heavily with journalist hating MBS' 2+ billion dollars in Gaza once the genocide/ethnic cleansing is complete. Personally I believe it's all connected.

(57,471 posts)This statement of yours sums it up well.
"The irony is because of their carte blanche mass punishment of civilian populations across the Middle East Netanyahu's government has lost or is losing their humanity along with their moral compasses."
What a disaster. I feel it will take generations, if ever, for Israel to recover from this branding, never having relieved Netanyahu's corrupt ass from duty.
What irony that another national government that has and will never shed it's label of having lost it's moral compass and it's own humanity is nazi Germany, the government responsible for the holocaust against Jews and others.

(60,130 posts)sometimes the victims PTSD sticks with them to the point of them becoming abusers when they grow up.

A review of case history, agency record, and self-report studies indicates that about one-third of all individuals who were physically abused, sexually abused, or extremely neglected will subject their children to one of these forms of maltreatment. The rate of abuse among individuals with a history of abuse is approximately six times higher than the base rate for abuse in the general population. Although this suggests that being maltreated as a child is an important risk factor in the etiology of abuse, most maltreated children do not become abusive parents. Many mediating factors affect the likelihood of intergenerational abuse. Consequently, unqualified acceptance of the intergenerational hypothesis is unwarranted. 41 references.
