He knew plenty of people who would do whatever it takes together ahead, who would look the other way if it meant another step up the ladder. Nice middle class people like the folks he grew up with.

They were the bullies that teased the 'slow girl' and the disabled guy. They were the ones who started vicious rumors about the pretty girls who wouldn't date them. They're the ones who harassed the 'eggheads' and 'brainiacs'. They were the ones who made school a daily gauntlet just getting to and from class. We all know who they were, and who they are.
