Related: About this forum"A Great Day for Justice": Gaza Lawyer Raji Sourani on ICC Arrest Warrants for Netanyahu & Gallant
We speak with the celebrated Palestinian human rights lawyer Raji Sourani after the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over the war in Gaza. Israel called it "an antisemitic decision," and the Biden administration said it rejects the charges on the grounds that the ICC does not have jurisdiction. But many other countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy and the Netherlands, have vowed to comply with the court's decision, which obligates states party to the Rome Statute that established the court to arrest Netanyahu and Gallant if they enter their territory. Sourani, now in Cairo after fleeing Gaza when his house was bombed by Israel, applauds the ICC for withstanding intense pressure from Israel and the United States to carry out its mandate. "They feel they are fully immune, they are free to do whatever they can, they will never be held accountable, and why their appetite for crimes [is] growing like a snowball every day," Sourani says of the Israeli government.

(57,727 posts)to the Gazans who they are continually blasting with air strikes. And now they extended the war into Lebanon. It's long overdue.
At least 50,000 killed in Gaza, maybe many more under the rubble v the 1,200 Israeli deaths. Retaliation for the Israeli dead is certainly justified but come on...with that ration and the denial of food, water and medical supplies, what else can you call it but genocide and wanting to rid Gaza of inhabitants.
Shameful.

(121,119 posts)He can't be arrested in Russia, China or the US. He probably doesn't want to visit Russia or China, but he'll be happy to pay a visit to Mierda-Lardo. He doesn't need to go anywhere else.

(60,201 posts)it's a watershed moment in political dynamics both here and in Israel, and that in turn will lead to fundamental policy changes.
Netanyahu and his ilk's moral power are leeching and the world (including the United States) know it, so supporting their abusive policies toward the Palestinian people will become increasingly difficult.
What I found interesting was the arrest warrant for an individual (the military commander of Hamas) that Netanyahu claimed to have already killed?
It makes me wonder if there was collaboration on October 7th.
Its not just BiBi. Virtually all Jewish members of the Knesset recently voted to keep UNRWA out of Gaza. No UNRWA no aid.

That in the mid-long term will alter the political dynamics in Israel as more evolved leadership takes hold.
