Kyiv residents expressed hope for a better, more peaceful future on Thursday, the first day of the New Year. Many strolled around a decorated Christmas tree on St. Sophia Square taking selfies and enjoying some moments of calm.
Tensions between Ukraine and Russia continued to spike despite diplomats hailing productive peace talks. Russia attacked the Odesa region overnight, targeting civilian infrastructure in several waves of drone attacks, according to regional head Oleh Kiper. (22,102 posts)1. Hope you don't mind me sharing this about Saint Sophia....
St.Sophia~
St. Sophia refers primarily to the early Christian martyr, a wise widow from Italy who named her three daughters after the virtues: Faith, Hope, and Love (Pistis, Elpis, and Agape in Greek). They were martyred under Emperor Hadrian for their steadfast faith, with the daughters beheaded, and Sophia dying soon after from grief, becoming a martyr herself, commemorated by Orthodox and Catholic traditions, with the name also honoring Holy Wisdom.

(249,926 posts)2. Wow! Thanks for sharing that story, one I wasn't familiar with
We studied disciples in school and my Dad bought a book of saints which I enjoyed reading, but this was a new - and very sad - story to me. Slava Ukraini! 💙
