There's Nothing We Can Do - Patrick Fitzgerald

Two years ago, in frustration over the Uvalde school shooting, I wrote a poem decrying the lack of any action - in contrast to monumental efforts placed toward bogus right-wing causes. Today there was another school shooting in Georgia, about thirty miles from my home, and Donald Trump remains unpunished and running for president. Nothing has changed.

=== Lyrics ===

While we’d really like to stop this, there is nothing we can do…

The moment that we hear more shots
We’ll send along our prayers and thoughts
Then whisper into funeral plots:
“There’s nothing we can do”

A shooter running up the stairs?
We’ll send along our thoughts and prayers
That man from Georgia sits and swears:
“There’s nothing we can do”

But when we do not get our way
And do not win election day
“To action, and without delay!”
We’ll gladly stage a coup

We cleared the schools of C-R-T
Of rainbows, and L-G-B-T
And any sport where “she’s a he”
Such easy things to do

So lest you think our hands are tied
Or that we’re simply paralyzed
Just think of all the things untried
There’s so much we could do

1. Yes, pretending there is nothing we can do is a lie we tell ourselves.

We live in a democracy, of course we can vote in leaders who will stop gun violence.

Americans do not wish to end the violence.

3. It wasn't always like this, even with Republicans. President Clinton passed the AWB in 1994 with support of Republicans

He called on all the living former presidents for support - and got it from Carter, Ford - and Reagan!

It is part of the plan to divide the country for money and power.

Plus they get off on cruelty and violence.
