Former Sanders, Fetterman campaign consultants start new firm aimed at winning back working-class voters

By HOLLY OTTERBEIN

01/27/2025

The consultants who helped guide Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign and the winning Senate bids for John Fetterman and Ruben Gallego are branding their new company Fight Agency.

They said they’re aiming to elect more nontraditional candidates with a populist, anti-establishment streak. They’re even open to fielding left-leaning independents who eschew the Democratic Party label altogether.

The kickoff of the company is the latest sign that Democrats are rethinking their approach to elections after President Donald Trump won for a second time with working-class voters of all stripes, once the bedrock of their party’s base. POLITICO is first to report on their announcement. https://vimeo.com/1050064307/3323c9a0a5

The partners of Fight Agency, which will be based in Philadelphia, include Rebecca Katz, the lead strategist for Fetterman and Gallego’s campaigns; Julian Mulvey, a key member of Sanders’ 2016 brain trust; and Tommy McDonald, an admaker for Fetterman and groups backing progressive House insurgents, like former Rep. Cori Bush, who successfully challenged incumbents. They said they’re aiming to elect more nontraditional candidates with a populist, anti-establishment streak. They’re even open to fielding left-leaning independents who eschew the Democratic Party label altogether.

Their launch is taking place as another major Democratic firm — Devine Mulvey Longabaugh, where Mulvey has been a partner for many years — closes its doors. Those consultants created Sanders’ iconic “America” ad and helped run his 2016 campaign.

As Democrats grapple with how to win back blue-collar voters, Mulvey said Sanders, Fetterman and Gallego provide “clues” for their party. He said they “all have the ability to connect with working-class and independent voters” and represent “anti-establishment, economic messaging, populist messaging.”

Who is this individual? Since Sinema and now Fetterman, the strategy must go beyond how to win the race.

I guarantee this will resonate with the voters Dems want to reach just like it did when Rockefeller and his early industrialists were back in the day.

And I find that hard to believe. Sometimes, I think people don't know the difference between the Democratic and Republican Parties. Rather, they look at elections more as popularity contests, like in High School.
What's more, there shouldn't be such a thing as an "undecided voter".
Maybe the Democratic Party needs to make it plain and clear what a Democrat is. A core belief that sets it apart from the Republican Party. There should be nothing wishy-washy about the definition of a "Democrat"!

There are countries that have up to 4-5 Political Parties. Think about that. Should we change our voting Parties to a 3 party system? Democratic, Independent, and Republican, which might be a place for people who think that they have a combination of Republican and Democratic beliefs. I know what everyone's thinking: Hell would have to freeze over before we changed to a 3-Party system.

Right now, I think we have 4 parties:
Far Right Corporate Republicans, Republicans, Corporate Democrats, and Democrats.

I hope and pray for a 2-Party System like we used to have. When there was give-and-take. When our elected officials would come together and get The People's business done without all the animosity. WE need to get the money out.

To win back voters we need to make it plain and clear what we Democrats believe in: Justice, Equality, a Living wage instead of a minimum wage, clean food, clean water, clean air (everywhere), EDUCATION (from Head Start thru 4 yrs of colleege or 2-yr skill
training), Universal HealthCare, Big Bird (Public TV and Radio), a Fact-based Press, etc.
In short, The Democratic Party is for The People. In the 21st Century. Period. Full Stop.
