The Way Forward

Its not difficult, and its one way to decouple from the machine. Using Signal for texts is another. Especially if were going to be doing any protesting, I like the idea of secure communication. What do you all think?

(4,399 posts)I pay for the mail plus account so I can use email aliases as well, but people who just need one email address can just go with the free account. They have a decent mobile app and an okay desktop app. I'm very happy with their service.

(4,399 posts)When it came out that the major telecoms had been hacked recently Biden's FBI recommended that everyone move to Signal or similar for Android-to-iOS texting. I really like Signal. You can also do cross-platform video calls with it. And Proton Mail is encrypted end to end as well. It's a good choice.

(4,399 posts)You just install it for the App Store and sign up with your phone number. You will then appear in the directory for your friends already signed up for Signal. So if you have an iPhone, you open Signal for texting and video calls rather than iMessage or FaceTime.
Edit: Signal messages are encrypted end to end, and for activism they have so cool security features like "disappearing messages" (I.e., an auto self destruct).

F47 has his hired goons in charge and we just wave a flag in advance of the demonstrations? r
cage everyone up before they even leave home.
I think a different alternative not suggested by his goons would be a better way to go.
imo.

Hide my email creates a per-site email address which forwards all the mail it receives to your regular email, hiding anything that uses your actual name from the site.

First, while the X post was not intended to be a political statement, I can understand how it can be interpreted as such, and it therefore should not have been made.
Nevertheless, it's the CEO.

If you go there, this is the result.
I trust no company whose CEO kisses Trump's Rump, and that includes Apple and Google and Amazon and so on, and use privacy tools from third parties like Signal and Tor Project that I can trust, for sensitive communications.
The rest, I use with caution if I can't avoid.

(15,540 posts)Signal seems to do messaging and even video.
I posted some tools in Activist HQ
https://www.democraticunderground.com/10113622
And I am going to look at the tools at riseup.net (mentioned in the above) but that site seems to require an account to explore things, so I need to set up a "try this out" account to explore. I have known that group for some time, so it's nothing really new and goofy.

Not related to privacy, I found free MediaWiki hosting today, and free Moodle hosting for small groups.
Moodle is easy to password protect.
