Writer and social media commentator Brian Krassenstein offered up a scathing copy edit of Donald Trump's rambling letter to Japan's prime minister announcing increased tariffs in his ongoing trade war.

"What a joke," Krassenstein began on his X account. "The letter is 528 words long and has 20 grammatical errors. Here they all are."

Krassenstein's beef with the letter included a myriad of "unnecessary capitalizations," in typical Trumpian style, and the "overly dramatic" use of exclamation marks.

One sentence Krassenstein marked as particularly "clunky" reads:

"If for any reason you decide to raise your Tariffs, then, whatever the number you choose to raise them by, will be added onto the 25% that we charge. Please understand that these Tariffs are necessary to correct the many years of Japan’s Tariff, and Non Tariff, Policies and Trade Barriers, causing these unsustainable Trade Deficits against the United States. This Deficit is a major threat to our Economy and, indeed, our National Security!"

The Wall Street Journal offered up its own interpretation of the letter, complete with a guide deciphering the "Trumpisms."

The Journal highlighted the following paragraph, before offering a correction.

"Goods transshipped to evade a higher Tariff will be subject to that higher Tariff," Trump wrote. "Please understand that the 25% number is far less than what is needed to eliminate the Trade Deficit disparity we have with your Country."

The "WSJ read" on that paragraph stated, "This 25% rate is actually one percentage point higher than the 24% rate Trump in April said Japan would face."....

Trump used funeral to beg Obama to play golf — and snub triggered meltdown: Book

Donald Trump reportedly buddied up to Barack Obama at Jimmy Carter's funeral, desperately pitching a plan for him to play at his golf courses.

According to a bombshell new book obtained by Axios, Trump spent Carter's solemn memorial service in January "enticing" Obama with descriptions of his courses worldwide, and begging his predecessor for an afternoon round. The conversation happened as the pair sat side by side.

The book, "2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America" by Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager and Isaac Arndorf, also reveals fresh details of Trump's post-election call with Kamala Harris, where he joked about phone service issues before telling his rival: "You're a tough cookie."

But with the golf conversation, Obama didn't take the bait — and his rejection clearly stung.clearly stung.

The Daily Beast reported that he tore down Obama's White House portrait, attacked Obama's library and shared QAnon conspiracy memes targeting his predecessor.

The feud escalated through summer, with Obama expertly trolling Trump over crowd sizes and mocking his Fourth of July narcissism.

Critics were quick to jump on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for re-nominating President Donald Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize after a Ukrainian official withdrew his recommendation, and Pakistani officials considered doing the same following the president's bombing of Iran.

Netanyahu "surprised" Trump with the nomination at a White House dinner on Monday.

The White House posted the moment to social media, recounting Netanyahu's words: "President Trump is 'forging peace as we speak, in one country and one region after the other. So, I want to present to you, Mr. President, the letter I sent to the Nobel Prize committee. It's nominating you for the peace prize, which is well-deserved.'"

Writer Linda Mamoun called the moment, "Beyond parody," while political commentator @SundaeDivine wrote, "International war criminal nominates convicted felon for Nobel Peace Prize."

Writer Brian Krassenstein wrote his own parody of the situation: "'Hey Donald can you bomb this sovereign nation for us?' Trump: 'Sure'. Netanyahu: 'You deserve a Nobel Peace Prize.'”

@BeckettUnite posted, "We are truly living in a time of imperial authoritarianism: A wanted war criminal, Netanyahu Who has murdered 20,000 children in Gaza presents a letter to the man who gave him the weapons for genocide...Sickening."

Ted Cruz's rush from vacation after tragedy doubted as flight data revealed

Flight data shows Sen. Ted Cruz could have rushed back to his flood-hit Texas constituency after the deaths of 100 people — including 27 girls and counsellors at a summer camp, the Daily Beast reported Tuesday.

Instead, he was seen touring the Parthenon in Athens, a full day after the Guadalupe River burst its banks. When confronted by a witness who said, "20 kids dead in Texas and you take a vacation?" Cruz reportedly "grunted and walked on" while his wife shot dirty looks.

Despite his office claiming Cruz returned from Greece "as fast as humanly possible" after the tragedy hit Friday, flight data obtained by the Beast shows multiple flights from Athens to San Antonio were available on both Friday and Saturday that would have gotten Cruz back to Texas significantly earlier than his Sunday return.

Commercial options included Saturday morning departures connecting through Chicago, Atlanta, or Washington D.C. that would have landed him in San Antonio that same evening. Friday flights were also available once the flooding's severity became apparent.

As a senator, Cruz also had access to private charter jets for emergency travel.

This marks another episode of Cruz being thousands of miles from Texas during crises. The senator infamously fled to Cancun during the deadly 2021 winter storm that left millions without power, only returning after intense backlash.

Maddow Blog-Team Trump struggles to control the Epstein 'client list' fire it helped create

It was members of the president's own team who helped light the match and fan the flames, starting a political fire that they’ve clearly lost control over.

If members of Team Trump didn’t want to get burned by the Epstein “client files” story, maybe they shouldn’t have helped light the match and fan the flames. www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

Steve Benen (@stevebenen.com) 2025-07-08T12:59:59.673Z

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/team-trump-struggles-control-epstein-client-list-fire-helped-create-rcna217441

As The New York Times reported, Team Trump now wants its adherents to believe that list does not exist — after having already said the opposite.

For months, Attorney General Pam Bondi promised the release of documents on the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein that could reveal damaging details, drumming up anticipation over the files, long a source of speculation and conspiracy theories. But on Monday, a memo by the Justice Department undercut her own statements, pouring cold water on baseless claims. It amounted to a catalog of conclusions that affirmed those reached years earlier by investigators, including that Mr. Epstein killed himself while in a Manhattan cell awaiting trial.

“This systematic review revealed no incriminating ‘client list,’” the DOJ memo said. “There was also no credible evidence found that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals as part of his actions. We did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties.”

The same memo added, “No further disclosure would be appropriate or warranted.”

In theory, this might seem sufficient. Donald Trump’s followers wanted a thorough investigation; Trump-appointed officials claim to have conducted just such a review; and the Trump administration is now effectively telling its base, “Move along, there’s nothing to see here.”.....

As part of the effort to end the controversy, the Justice Department did release a lengthy video showing the hallway outside Epstein’s jail cell, but as the Times’ report noted, the video “appears to be missing a minute just before midnight. The digital clock on the screen jumps from 11:58:58 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Officials did not immediately have an explanation for the apparent gap.”

If you’re thinking this won’t help matters, you’re not alone.

As this mess gets messier, the detail to remember is that this is a fiasco of Team Trump’s own making. Bondi said the “client list” was on her desk. Kash Patel and Don Bongino, before they became the FBI’s leaders, insisted that conspiracy theories related to Epstein were real and worth taking seriously.

Even JD Vance, four years before he became vice president, railed against efforts to keep the alleged “client list” secret. The Ohio Republican wrote in a 2021 tweet, “If you’re a journalist and you’re not asking questions about this case you should be ashamed of yourself.”

If members of Team Trump want to know who to blame for this debacle, they need only look in a mirror.

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In a bombshell report issued Monday, the Department of Justice said it has identified a man in a decades-old photograph of Jeffrey Epstein as former President Joe Biden.

The emergence of the Epstein-Biden photo has compelled the DOJ to open “a thorough investigation” into the ties between the two men, a Justice spokesperson said.

At the White House, Donald J. Trump said that the Epstein photo proved “Joe Biden’s crimes are even worse than Hunter’s.”

Asked whether he was confident in the accuracy of the DOJ’s identification of Biden, Trump said, “Come on—Pam Bondi’s on the case.”

https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/07/07/public-health-groups-file-lawsuit-stop-rfk-jrs-vaccine-changes/

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. violated the law and imperiled public health when he withdrew some recommendations about coronavirus vaccines, a coalition of medical associations alleged in a lawsuit filed Monday.

The lawsuit against Kennedy and other top government health officials seeks to overturn the health secretary’s decision in May to end the government’s long-standing blanket recommendation that children and pregnant women should receive the shots.

The reversal has made it difficult for some pregnant women to get vaccinated to protect themselves and their future children, according to the health groups that filed the lawsuit. Medical professionals rely on — and are sometimes legally bound by — federal vaccine recommendations to decide whom to immunize.

The American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Physicians, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine are among the organizations that joined forces to file the lawsuit in federal court in Massachusetts......

The lawsuit includes an anonymous pregnant physician and says it will be “more difficult” for her to access the coronavirus vaccine. It asks a judge to set aside Kennedy’s coronavirus vaccine directives and urges the court to order Kennedy to say on X that the vaccine recommendations are restored for pregnant women and children. It also seeks to immediately prevent the government from enforcing the new recommendations.

The lawsuit contends that Kennedy “has demonstrated a clear pattern of hostility toward established scientific processes, a disregard for expert guidance, an affinity for placing persons who align with his anti-vaccination views in positions of authority at HHS, and a reliance on bias and pretext to further his apparent agenda: to undermine trust in vaccines and reduce the rate of vaccinations in this country.”

El Salvador Contradicts Trump, Says It Has No Authority Over Migrants Held in Megaprison

The trump DOJ lied in numerous filings

https://www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/el-salvador-contradicts-trump-no-authority-venezuelans-alien-enemies-act-cecot/

El Salvador told the United Nations that it has no legal authority over hundreds of Venezuelan men that President Donald Trump sent to a Salvadoran megaprison earlier this year.

Over 200 men were removed from the U.S. without due process in March and were transferred to the notorious Salvadoran terrorism prison CECOT shortly after Trump invoked the Alien Enemies Act (AEA), a rarely used wartime law.

El Salvador’s account of which country has legal authority over the men contradicts what the Trump administration has repeatedly claimed in public and in courts.

Trump officials, including the president, have said for months that they cannot return any of the men sent to CECOT and other Salvadoran prisons because they are under the legal authority of El Salvador.

The government has used these claims in arguments for why it has not complied with court orders requiring it to return some of the men.

El Salvador made the disclosure in response to an inquiry from a United Nations working group that helps families in determining the fate or whereabouts of family members who have reportedly been disappeared by governments.
