Trump's cuts hit red states, triggering GOP pushback--FAFO

Republican lawmakers are pushing back against sweeping cuts to the federal government launched by President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, as their downsizing crusade begins to hit GOP constituents.

A growing number of GOP lawmakers are trying to intervene with the Trump administration and are weighing legislation to circumvent the changes. But with the Department of Government Efficiency and the Office of Management and Budget moving at a rapid clip and flouting federal law to carve up the government, the lawmakers face monumental challenges in getting the White House to spare their constituents from the ax.

Idaho Republican Rep. Mike Simpson, a senior appropriator whose district is home to a number of National Park Service sites, said in an interview his staff is talking to the administration about how an OMB-directed, government-wide hiring freeze will affect the National Park Service. The park service fired 1,000 full-time staff Friday but said seasonal hiring is resuming, exempting 5,000 seasonal jobs from the hiring freeze.

Ford CEO warns Trump tariffs threaten to ‘blow a hole’ in US auto industry
https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/other/ford-ceo-warns-trump-tariffs-threaten-to-blow-a-hole-in-us-auto-industry/ar-AA1z0NJD?ocid=BingNewsVerp

The CEO of the Ford Motor Company has warned that President Donald Trump’s tariffs threaten to “blow a hole” in the U.S. auto manufacturing industry.

Jim Farley spoke out this week about the 25 percent across-the-board trade tariffs looming for Mexican and Canadian imports to the U.S., including for steel and aluminum, and warned that it could trigger major job losses in Trump-voting states.

Canada is the biggest source of U.S. imported steel, which is key to the American auto industry, and the tariffs importers like Ford will have to pay will significantly hurt American consumer prices and competition with foreign vehicles.

Republicans Reveal Trump Tax Plan Will Cost US $4.5 Trillion

he Republican House Budget resolution out Wednesday reveals the Ways and Means Committee will get $4.5 trillion to lock in tax cuts, one of President Donald Trump's major proposals.

The GOP also seeks an increase in the debt limit by $4 trillion, the resolution says.

The plan, which includes a substantial increase in the debt limit, highlights the party's commitment to making permanent the tax cuts enacted during the Trump administration.

The Trump Tax Cuts 2018 Worked (As a Scam)

Republicans said the reform would grow the economy by up to 6 percent, stimulate business investment, and pay for itself. None of that happened.--Business investment declined, dragging down economic growth. And the federal deficit exceeds $1 trillion.

Trump’s trade policies have cost thousands of U.S. manufacturing jobs

Trump administration’s overall weak trade agenda, COVID-19—and that administration’s mismanagement of the crisis—has wiped out much of the last decade’s job gains in U.S. manufacturing.

Nearly 1,800 factories have disappeared under Trump between 2016 and 2018,

If not for the Bush tax cuts and their extensions — as well as the Trump tax cuts — revenues would be on track to keep pace with spending indefinitely, Instead, these tax cuts have added $10 trillion to the debt since their enactment and are responsible for 57 percent of the increase in the debt ratio since 2001

Reagan took the deficit from $70 billion to $175 billion. Bush 41 took it to $300 billion. Clinton got it to zero. Bush 43 took it from zero to $1.2 trillion. Obama halved it to $600 billion. Trump’s got it back to a trillion."

Ford CEO says 25% tariff on Canada, Mexico would 'blow a hole' in US auto industry

Ford CEO Jim Farley, on the eve of traveling to Washington to meet with members of Congress on President Donald Trump's proposed tariffs, did not mince words Tuesday during an investor conference.

While Trump has talked about strengthening the U.S. auto industry, which would be a signature accomplishment, "So far what we're seeing is a lot of cost and a lot of chaos," Farley said.

"Let's be real honest: Long term, a 25% tariff across the Mexico and Canada borders would blow a hole in the U.S. industry that we've never seen," Farley said. "Frankly, it gives free rein to South Korean, Japanese and European companies that are bringing 1.5 million to 2 million vehicles into the U.S. that wouldn't be subject to those Mexican and Canadian tariffs. It would be one of the biggest windfalls for those companies ever."

Ford's CEO Jim Farley Warns of "Devastating" Consequences of Trump's Tariffs on U.S. Auto Industry

Source: techcrawlr

Ford’s CEO Jim Farley is raising alarms about the potential impact of tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada, set to begin on March 1. He believes these new tariffs, which could reach as high as 25%, will hurt the US auto industry badly.

Farley explained that the tariffs are already causing chaos and increasing costs for automakers, even though they haven’t been enforced yet. He warned that if they continue, the effects could be severe, affecting both manufacturers and customers.

During an investment conference, Farley highlighted how President Trump’s push to make the US auto industry stronger and bring more production here had been a major goal. But instead of benefiting from this strategy, Farley said the industry is now facing extra financial strain and uncertainty.

U.S. Travel Association Warns of Economic Tourism Disaster After Thousands of Canadian Tourists Cancel Trips in Protest

Canadian travelers decided to fight back against an announcement made by the 47th President of the United States on Saturday to impose a 25% tariff on most imported goods from their country, by canceling their vacation trips to the United States in protest.

The travel boycott, in addition to other boycotts raised by Canadians frustrated with the executive order that not only imposes tariffs on Canadian goods but also goods from Mexico and China, is meant to hurt the United States where it counts the most: their tourism economy.

The U.S. Travel Association has warned that the U.S. government’s move to impose steep tariffs against neighboring countries will lead to an economic tourism disaster for the United States after thousands of Canadian travelers canceled their trips immediately following the President’s announcement.

Trump to pause enforcement of law banning bribery of foreign officials

Source: cnbc

President Donald Trump will sign an executive order directing the Department of Justice to pause enforcing a nearly half-century-old law that prohibits American companies and foreign firms from bribing officials of foreign governments to obtain or retain business.

The pause will be implemented to avoid putting U.S. businesses at an economic disadvantage to foreign competitors.

Trump reportedly will tell Attorney General Pam Bondi to prepare new guidelines for Foreign Corrupt Practices Act enforcement.

Trump tariffs will cost U.S. carmakers billions and are a 'bonanza' for Asian competitors, warns Ford CEO Jim Farley

Ford CEO Jim Farley assured investors that his team has a plan to shield the company from the worst effects of Donald Trump’s tariff threats—provided the former president doesn’t go beyond brinkmanship and posturing.

Ahead of any new import taxes, Farley said Ford and its suppliers intend to stockpile vehicles and parts that typically move between the U.S. and Mexico.

If tariffs take effect, the strategy would create a de facto trade barrier at the Rio Grande, halting cross-border shipments and sealing off operations.

Donald Trump has gone silent on working class cost of living issues
For the past two years, Donald Trump has spread fear about the state of the United States and championed himself as the only man capable of saving the country from itself. Only he could bring down the price of groceries and gas. Only he could fix the broken health care system. Only he could fix the broken immigration system. Only he could end the wars in Ukraine and in the Middle East.

Now that the voters have drunk the Kool-Aid, the jig is up. The grift is over and the prize of the presidency is won. But will the buyers of the golden sneakers have buyer’s remorse? I suspect that for all but the most cult-following MAGA lemmings, the answer to that question is yes.
