them and perhaps endeavor to be especially polite to physicians, nurses, and all the ER staff.

In reality, it is the exact opposite. They are accusatory, offensively argumentative, totally unconcerned with others, and frequently demanding to the level of overtly threatening staff and others. How on earth they think this level of nasty belligerence is going to motivate exhausted HCWs to go that extra mile for THEM escapes me.

So, while I know everyone will continue to do their best, if I overhear a very honest but brutal comment about some of these cretins outside their hearing, it no longer phases me. (it once would have horrified me).
