17. This is a "volunteer" fire squad so they don't work for any "pay".

I know one of my sisters lives in a suburban Philly township that has several volunteer fire departments associated with the township (the township is made up of 4 "towns" that share public resources like police, fire, library services, governmental services, etc) and they do fund-raising (plus receive grants, etc.) to support the fire units - e.g. for purchase/maintenance of those expensive trucks.
