My thought process used to be "everyone is a good person until they prove otherwise".
Unfortunately, my thought process has now seemed to change to "everyone is a bad person, until they prove otherwise".
I think this change in my philosophy has to do with self-preservation.
I'm obviously shocked and dismayed at what I believe to be an unacceptable percentage of "bad", "evil", or "hopelessly stupid" people that exist in this country. Prior to Trump, it seemed that they pretty much kept their mouths shut, so they were not as blatant and apparent. Now, it's like Pandora's box has been opened, and they seem to be coming out of the woodwork and exposing their true selves.
All of that being said, I try to be polite to everyone, in spite of what my suspicions about people's motives may be. However, once they prove themselves to be unworthy of my respect, I treat them the way I personally feel they deserve to be treated.
