Ive even been to Giza. Ive also been to Stonehenge and several other megalithic sites. There are a lot more of them than people realize, and whenever I travel for business or other reasons, I make it a point to visit ancient megalithic structures.
Who built the pyramids and why is really well documented because the Egyptians wrote it down and we can read it. We can also read the work of people who have used scientific inquiry to learn all sorts of things about the pyramids and other megalithic structures. They are fascinating and impressive monuments built by a species which is very clever - humans.
One of the disheartening things is the fundamental racist assumption that the people living at that time were too dumb to have figured out how to solve problems using the technology available to them.
And, absolutely, there are ancient technologies that are no longer known because they used techniques that came from thousands of years of not having many things other than natural earthly materials and the occasional meteor.
But, heres the thing about that
if you went to Intel and asked their top engineers to make vacuum tubes, they wouldnt know how. Sure, they could consult reference materials and eventually figure it out, and there are some which are still made. But that is a very recent and nearly obsolete technology.
But who built them and why? Yes, thats very well documented by the Egyptians themselves. Its a shame that racism is so casually and deeply ingrained. Its a combination of racism and having a limited imagination, and so some people are compelled to invoking gods, spirits, genies or aliens who decided to build stuff out of rocks and make it look like humans did it.
