...I'm trying to figure out how to respond without repeating myself, or just giving up.

From what I understand, this is a choice, not some inevitability. Besides the 'optics' CNN talks about, there's the stark reality of this two-fronted assault on the presidency and the nation in a cynical attempt to advance a political agenda they don't have votes for.

Or did you mean the republican claim?
