(913 posts)In some ideal world where the media plays a useful role (see Finley Peter Dunne about comforting the afflicted), yeah, sure, the candidates should be taking questions. But right now, a lot of the press have degenerated into entertainment and even just Trump shills. Best to realize that and use it as-is.
We probably do want our presidents to act more like public mouthpieces and spokespeople for policies. The federal government is far too complex for a micromanaging obsessive. Biden wasn't very good at selling his projects to the public and Obama for all his oratory seems to have been terrible at both public and legislative selling . Clinton was great at selling to the public. You can see the danger of this in somebody like Trump, who is never off the stage, and always selling garbage. That doesn't necessarily mean taking endless nonsense questions from an enfeebled press.
