(65,497 posts)27. I'm a 3rd generation Texan who gave up schlepping my seasoned cast iron skilled around just too long.
My days of shaking my raw chicken in a bag of flour seasoned with pepper and salt and frying said chicken in Crisco were over; I had to give it up when I moved North. I also had to give up eating boiled okra (slime and all) as it nauseated my husband. And no to black eyed peas on New Years day for good luck.
You just can't put a properly seasoned cast iron skillet in a dishwasher, it defeats the whole purpose of seasoning it in the first place!

My son is the cook here and he loves my cast iron. I wash them with soap. They're 50 years old and so seasoned I can

This sounds like the dirty joke about what his wife and their diswasher have in common.

Fried okra is good, but I like it boiled. It's the slime that people don't like. I love the slime!

Yup, a lot of work. Most people won't have the power tools, nor the patience to re-season the pan. NT

That man claims to be a hillbilly. His granny would have taught him how to treat a cast iron pan.
