What if dementia is Trumps's exit strategy? [View all]

Trump knows he’s done for in the courts if loses the election. He’ll have to sit through endless proceedings or be jailed outright. No kind of life for Trump.

Trump is no fool (oh stop it). He’s thinking about alternate endings. Maybe he figures an acceptable outcome is the quiet life of a mental patient in home care at Mar a Lago. Maybe he’s playing his own version of multi level chess and is simultaneously trying to steal the election, AND developing an insanity or diminished capacity defense .

His base doesn’t care that he appears to be declining, that he’s displaying signs of incipient dementia. They see it as schtick. He knows this.

Normals see that schtick as classic symptoms of a number of disorders, including dementia. Dementia is a disease. We treat people with mental disorders differently, with compassion.

What if Trump is banking on that compassion to result in sentencing that takes his ‘condition’ into account and remands him to some kind of mental disorder treatment facility. And eventually to in-home care with only the best therapists, doctors, and nurses, at some nice, secure facility appropriate for the compassionate confinement of an ex President. You know, someplace like Mar a Lago. Doctor Ronnie Jackson in attendance.

What if Donald Trump’s recent ramping up the crazy is all part of a nefarious back up plan. It’s brilliant really. Ramping up the crazy works for his base. It also works to establish a dementia defense.

At this point we know anything is possible. We know that Trump is a wily bastard. It makes sense for us to suppose that he’s got an exit strategy. This one is at least as plausible as escape to a glamorous penthouse in Abu Dhabi, or somewhat less grand accommodations in Venezuela.
