4. The day honors Casimir Pulaski, who founded the US Cavalry

Until I looked it up, I was thinking it honored Ed Pulaski, a descendant of Casimir who became a forest ranger in Idaho. Ed Pulaski is a hero in Idaho for saving all but five of his 45-man crew who were fighting the Great Idaho Fire in 1910. He also invented a combination ax and adze tool - one side of the head is an axe, the other an adze, which is used for digging sorta like a really tough hoe - that became known as the Pulaski Tool. Ranger Pulaski also fought to get benefits for his men because they were all damaged by fighting that fire.
