This strategy only makes sense if they're sure they'll win. It would fall under softening up the populace on the eve of a fascist takeover.

But they can't be sure they'll win, unless they think they can steal it.

I wouldn't be surprised if this strategy is left over from earlier this past summer, before Biden stepped down. At that time I think Trump's campaign was sure they would win. Why haven't they pivoted since then?
