16. I read that book back in the early 80s, and it explained so much about how things went on.

I've never been able to find anyone else who'd read it, and anyone I tried to talk to about it said I was crazy, that it made no sense and that wasn't how any of the world worked. And yet...

Forty plus years of experience, and it's exactly how the world works. Sane people also elect crazy people, dangerous people, to the government, and that's been happening since elections started.
