I was laid off in June. While I stayed on COBRA for 10 weeks until I found another job with benefits, I very easily could have needed ACA (definitely in 2025). My wife has preexisting conditions that would make getting insurance difficult (I am 61 and very healthy after keto and losing 160#, but my wife is diabetic with several issues).

My plan was to work to 68 when my wife would be eligible for Medicare. It this stage I pray my new employer will need me until the cemetery workers throw dirt on my coffin. I am not leaving a job with benefits ever unless it is to go to another job with benefits.

A lifetime of paying into Medicare and Social Security, and there is a chance that it will be taken away from me. I am already working for little benefit when it comes to the SS formula since I already have 35 strong credited years and am making 30% less that I was when "retired" by my previous employer.
