For the first time, I'm glad she passed before all of this [View all]

I'm afraid I have to admit that I am glad my dear wife passed before what is happening now. She grew up in a blue-collar conservative household, but as long as we were together (>50 yrs), she was a virulent progressive. She was a heavy user of DU, and got me started in 2016.

One quick anecdote. A few decades ago, the KKK was staging a rally at the entrance to our small rural town, near the diner. We happened to pass them, in their hoods and all, as we were out doing our shopping. She was instantly half out of the now open car window, while we were in motion, screaming at them, using some very bad words. The only thing that kept her in the car was me holding desperately onto her waistband.

She was devastated when Hillary lost, and I personally believe that may have been the beginning of the downturn in her health. She was ultimately finished by a combination of Cancer, Sepsis and hospital acquired Covid. A little under 2 years ago.

As I said, I am glad she never had to be here to see what is happening now. She got to live out her life in her own home, without a worry about housing, food or economic security.

I guess I will undertake to deal with those issues as they come up.
