Rule #1: Do not obey in advance [View all]

Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive
government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.

Check out On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder

I see it happening all over.

The media started obeying when Trump said he was running. It's too late for them.

The legislature obeyed when they had a chance to convict on impeachment. It's too late for them.

The judiciary obeyed when they agreed that laws don't matter for presidents. It's too late for them.

The executive branch obeyed when they slow walked Jan 6th case against Trump. It's too late for them.

Many of your friends and family have started to obey. It's too late for them.

Noone is coming to save us. Only we can save ourselves. Rule #1 Do not obey in advance.
